If you feel he needs services, or will need accomodations in school, then I would recommend locating a child psychologist in your area familiar with ASD's.
Our son has just finished 5th grade, and this past year he went to the local university for classes in forensic science - something he loves - which his elementary school footed the bill for! While many of the folks in his class were several years older than him (h/s age) they were far more on his level and he made more of a friend connection with them then he ever has with a "peer".
Whatever he likes to do, whether it's bowling or spelunking, get him out there and doing it with other people of a variety of ages.
