Welcome Nina, hope you enjoy your time here!
With the whole 'handicapped' thing, I didn't see you as saying that your son is handicapped, I saw you as saying you don't want him to be seen as handicapped. Personally I am not a majour fan of the word, simply because it sums up who the person is by their weaknesses. It all depends on who you are talking to though. If I am filling out a form to get a pension from Social Security, I am disabled. If I am eating food, I am hungry. If I am hanging out with friends, I am Annelise. It's all relative, you just have to find the right balance and try and avoid the extremes. It doesn't just apply to Aspies: we all have our strengths and we all have weaknesses that in effect make us less abled. There's no shame in admitting your son has a handicap when it comes to sommersaults if he plain and simple does, but that doesn't mean he isn't exceptional at maths. I know which I would rather! Unfortunately I suck at both!
Sorry, 'scuse the lecture: I reiterate my welcome!
