hi all, I am new here. I wrote a poem about having Aspergers last year, and someone on the website where I posted it took great offence at my words. a lot of the poem was about 'feeling like a lizard' in terms of being very aware of everything, like a lizard might be in the desert. it's how I sometimes feel when I walk around in town.

anyway, her niece or nephew had low-IQ autism and she thought I was taking the mick out of him/her.

so that encouraged me to get tested. I paid for my own diagnosis. I have got mild Aspergers, which is what I thought. I am socially very insecure, and avoid going out at present. however in creative terms I am very gifted, especially in the area of music. indeed, it was reading that Mozart may have had Aspergers that made me think I might- although I don't have a 100th of his immense talent! it was more a feeling that I related to his way of thinking and creativity.

hello!

i wouldn't take much belief in those celebrity lists. some of those are rediculous.

i wouldn't be surprised if one said that Tom Cruise is severely autistic.Image

well, im new too, but who can blame me for welcoming someone?

thanks all. :)

Axta, I play guitar- I just wrote a nice piece with four chords actually- sounds a bit Radioheady... a bit like 'nice dream'. I sing as well, and play a bit of drums and other stuff...

you are right about Jim Morrison, he was the 'lizard king'. he wrote a lot about them. I am not the lizard king... maybe I am a lizard peasant... do you like the doors?

welcome to WP. Just a comment about poems. What they mean to you is never going to match what someone else gets out of your words. If they they take offence at what you ment as inoffensive they it is they who have a problem.

I was diagnosed with Asperger and Autistic Disorder in late 2004, an the age of 34. I too am very much into music (mostly music appreciation & music history - Classical Music). I just love many of the great well know composers, as well as lesser know (and great as well), including Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Bruckner, and many many others. Many people believe that of all the composers, the truest of "Aspies" was Beethoven... I assume the debate will go on on that one. I do not play an instrument per se, but I do sing.
Anyway, welcome to WrongPlanet!

Blessings!

I do like Beethoven, he's cool. My favourite is the 6th symphony. I have got a soft spot for Sibelius as well...

I just happen to be related to him (several links down)! Relatives on my maternal grandmother's side with the surname of Sebelius (spelling got changed over the course of immigrating here) arrived in the States in the late 1800s from Northern Europe, and came to North Dakota.

Cool!

What do you mean by "she thought I was taking the mick out of him/her". I don't understand what that means? Sometimes I don't understand foreign english phrases.
