Hello everyone. I guess I should do an introduction thread before I dive into all the interesting discussions going on here.

I am called Pugly. I am 22 years and I don't know if I have Asperger's Syndrome or not. I have many of the symptoms, but some of it just barely fits me. I don't remember much of my childhood, but if I do have Asperger's it would explain much of the odd problems I had as a child. Nowadays I may have just adapted to an NT world....

I at the very least have many of the same social interacting characteristics of Asperger's, the clumsyness, some odd obsessions and a cumplusive need to talk about them with people (though my obsessions aren't completely uncommon), and from what I can remeber(though mostly through what family tells me) I developed language and reading skills at a very young age. Plus I have the normal to above average intelligence thing... though I'll let you folks be the judge of that.

One thing that I don't do, or at least not that I am aware of is the stimming. Or if I do stim its very mild I will shake my leg sometimes to the annoyance of other people around me, and if no one is arround I do occasionally burst out with some song-ish ramblings, I also tend to flip whatever thing I have in my hand tools, pens etc... and to top all this off a general compulsion to tap a rhythm on any surface that is availble including parts of my body, gererally stomach. Though I do like the sound I get out of tapping my head. None of this seems to be on the level of what you around here discribe though.

Video Games: In many forms too, I am avid console/PC/handheld Gamer
Music favorite group is They Might Be Giants, but I am currently getting into some instrumental indie Rock
Computer Hardware: I build my own computers, and the computers of family and friends. I like the challenge of finding the best parts given a certain price.
Rhythm: I am trying to figure out this thing called polyrhythms

If you have any Math questions I will be more then happy to help you out... I am currently going to college for a degree in mathematics and have that part of the degree done. Now I have to take all the classes I am not interested in.... could take a while. I could answer any question up to calculus... and possibly beyond.

As for the rhythmic stims and leg shaking, I do those a lot and I have a diagnosis - what stims people use to tune out/relax/when stressed varies enormously so that is 'normal' for WP...
Can you explain polyrhythms? /me is fascinated...

Polyrhythms is when 2 or more beats are played on top of each other in which the rhythm isn't a multiple of each other. 2 on top of 4 or 3 on 6 isn't that interesting. The most basic interesting polyrythm is a 2 over 3. In math terms in order to have an interesting polyrhythm the beats should be realtively prime.

Here is a how the 2 over the 3 looks like.

X|O|O|X|O|O|

Where each block is a unit of time and the x is a beat and the o is a rest....

I have been looking at 3 over 4 and that needs 12 blocks to analyze properly. For any polyrhythm you need the lowest common multiple of spaces to figure it out. The hard part I want to figure out is a 3 or 4 part polyrhythm.... like 2 over 3 over 5. Or 4 over 5 over 6 over 7. But these are beyond me at the momment.


As for the stims, I guess the reason I don't register them as stims is that I never do them because of stress. In fact I rarely am stressed and am very mellow most of the time, so I just do them as a way of keeping myself occupied. But I have never been very stressed so maybe I do even differient things when the pressure is on.

I'd like to start off by saying welcome to the forums.

That's a common thing to do and the point of it is to help the blood circulate better in the legs and feet, as gravity draws it there.



I enjoy console games alot, too. I am currently playing The legend of Zelda: The wind waker.

The Wind Waker is a great game. Had lots of fun with that one, was a tad too easy for my tastes but it was a great experience nonetheless. My favorite Zelda game is Link to the Past... I thought that game had the most well thought out dungeons/puzzles/items. The new Zelda looks awesome though... can't wait untill more info is unvieled... probably at this years E3.

Pity i won't be able to attend that... when is it?

My name is Archmage, and, as you have probably guessed from my avatar and signature, i am a fan of both Harry Potter and The Legend of Zelda. I also like LOTR, Starwars, and Shrek 2.

I really enjoyed it being more relaxing and easy, as it allowed me to get on with the game and keep the excitement level up.

If a game is too hard or you have to repeat things too many times, I generaly get annoyed with it and hardly play it.

anyone like Ocarinia of time? That one is my personal zelda favorite.

E3 is usually in May mid month. Just looked it up and it is being held 18-20. A little latter this year. Usually all the good info is released the day before during each major campanys pre show conference. I've never been there, but its one of the few places I would like to go on a vacation or something. Despite the problems I would have with being around so many people.



Ocarina of Time is one of my favorite games too. It ranks about equally with Wind Waker for me, but for differient reosons. Great game.

Oot is way better than wind waker in my book...
