Now, I know I made this account a few weeks ago but I've only just decided to get up the nerve to actually post something, which probably just shows the Aspie that I do be, or something.

Finding out about other Aspies was a huge relief for me, I knew I'd always been different - I felt it wasn't a square peg in a round hole but a crab that everyone thought was just a square peg while the crab wonders how he got put with the pegs - but I didn't have any explanation or know if I'd ever find 'my people'.

So, childhood was pretty rough. Not only did/do I display strong Aspie tendancies but my father was a violent alcoholic with something going on in his head (we were never told due to privacy acts, it may have been bi-polar) and he truly hated (maybe still does) me for being so different and resisting his attempts to mold me into the kind of kid he wanted to have been. He made us move every two years or so which made interacting with NTs even harder - as soon as they'd become used to me we moved and it all started again. In 2000 he finally snapped and tried to have a murder-suicide thing and my parents seperated, yet that still wasn't enough so we (my mother, sister and I) moved from New Zealand to Australia.

Anyway, I've found that communicating across message boards is so much easier so for the past four years I've been going to GameFAQs and posting there (though only on one board: again, the Aspie?) so I now know the people there more than anyone else in my life (other than family of course).

Anyway, I like video games, animals and reading. I'll try to post here and hopefully get to know my fellow Aspies.

Thats pretty messed up to hear that about your childhood, moving all the time is pretty rough. I moved around the same town a lot and was going to a new school every year... everytime I got used to a school I got pushed into a new one, with tons of problems resulting. But no where near the problems you describe.... yikes thats some scary stuff going on there.

Finding out that about Asperger's was sort of a relief for me... I might have it I am not sure... but its great to know that there are similar people to me.

I enjoy video games as well, I frequent GameFAQs a bunch. Don't post in the forums though...

There seems to be a pattern here. Do all or most aspies like video games, despite their ages? While I don't program computers, I have had some brushes with it. I like the ability to program, and sometime I hope to learn a computer language well, but I don't like the tedious, manufacturing-like, repitative boring elements of line by line code over hundreds or thousands of lines and even if I do or could, I would not like the end result to be boring. Something motion or story oriented, like movie clips or video games, or even war or strategy games (which don't always have a strong story element, as you usually create your own by your actions). Maybe sometime a list of the top 100 most common characteristics could be put in a poll to see which are the most prevalent.

I enjoy playing Video Games as well. and I would also like to welcome you.

Sorry to hear about your childhood - it is quite odd but there do seem to be quite a lot of Aspies and Auties who had one or both parents who were violent and often sadistic alcoholics with bipolar.

Makes me wonder whether the tendency to alcoholism in AS is not also genetic rather than just stemming from trying to deal with social isolation etc.

So, that's where we have heard of you before. I tend to browse through the list of members even though there are some who don't post as often. It's nice that you finally made up your mind to post to this forum.

I had a parent, who shall we say had a alcohol induced oriented entanglement malfunction symdrome of short durations many years ago, it had basically stopped several years ago after about 7 to 14 years or so of uncertain solution objective goal directed self perscribed programming.
