Mom of a just diagnosed 13 yr old Aspie

Hi there, I'm new. My 13 year old son has just been diagnosed a "high functioning" Aspie. I am really lost as to what I can do to help. It does however explain alot of things that we have had to deal with from birth. Is there any other mom's out there that can help with some Q's about Aspies?

Hi there, I'm new too. My 12 year old son was recently diagnosed with high functioning Asperger's and my 14 year old son is halfway through his diagnosis and i'm certain he has it too. Over the years we have had to cope with lots of problems.
Both boys are completely different. One is loving and sensitive, the other is more remote and hates any kind of affection.
My advice to you would be to read up and learn all you can about Asperger's.
I have suffered a lot of critisism from friends, family and teachers over my parenting skills, other mothers think, "well my children are "normal" so she must be doing something wrong!" But now I will no longer accept critisism from anyone!
I often talk to them about feelings and I'm affectionate with both of them.

Welcome! I am now a month-old veteran of this forum, and of my daughter's dx. She just turned 12 and I have no idea what's going to happen at school; they were waiting for the official dx before they did anything. I'm happy to be sharing the journey with other parents, but I have far more questions than answers. The only thing I know for sure is that I am going to be on this board even more than Facebook now!

I didn't have my older children, myself or their father assessed. I figure we were all at least slightly AS or ADHD, but since it didn't seem to affect school or life in long-term negative ways we didn't need to pay for the expensive, official route. As long as we are ready to give schooling one more try for my dd, though, we needed this. And it also helped me to have a fuller picture of her strengths and needs.
