Hi, I'm new here. 19 years old, male, diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome like 10 years ago though I'm only now starting to find out about it.

Thought I'd join this site to maybe find people like me, but I can already see there's a lot of diversity here.

I don't know what else to say.. Here I am. Be nice to me.

Dear Storm, Welcome, I'mnew here myself and I hope you enjoy everyone's wit and humor and insights as much as I do! I am so glad for you to have been diagnosed so young; as much difficulty this disorder provides, believe me it is SO much worse stumbling through life not knowing why it isn't possible to be 'like everyone else'. I hope you find this to be the place you feel at home. Sylkat :D

Nice to meet you Sylkat.

Unfortunately I stumbled through life without a clue what was up. I was diagnosed at either 9 or 11 years old. I honestly can't remember. My parents kept me completely in the dark. I had very brief therapy sessions to get rid of aversions to food and I have a vague memory of doing some sort of 'play therapy' (I think that's what it's called. No idea what the purpose was though).

Nevertheless, I knew something was up. I didn't have any friends in primary school. I've had some curious luck in that area... I would make a friend every once in a while only for them to be taken away at some point in the near future. For example a friend was kept back a year in pre-primary and I had to carry on without them. So the way things tended to work was I'd make a friend for a few weeks and then I'd be alone for say a year or two. I knew I had some problems.

As I moved on from Primary school I started to make a conscious effort to 'fix' myself on my own. By the end of highschool I'd convinced myself I'd done it, too.

Anyway my parents brought it up with me eventually and I ended up getting another assessment to make sure. That was a couple of months ago. Now here I am.
