Not much of a title I know..

unlike a majority of the posts I've read on here, I have actually been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome from a psychiatrist and even been issued medications to "help" which of course I got off because I prefer to feel like s**t being around people rather then feel like a lifeless robot while on the medications. Along with my wonderful Aspie package I come included with high social anxiety and some problem with authoritive figures that was pretty self explanitory that I never cared to dive into further.

Am I the only one who finds it kind of insulting that there are "self diagnosed" aspies? I've met people like this, just because they might have low self esteem or not like to be around people (probably because they dress up like stereotypical goth/punk/whatever), and have problems of their own socializing, they believe that for some reason they could be an aspie. I had one of these people I knew (over the internet) go to a psychiatrist and check herself out, turns out that she just had low self esteem.

Don't get me wrong.. I love it that people are actually making an effort to learn about what an aspie is, hopefully make the world more tolerable and understanding of people like me.. But when someone "self diagnoses", goes out in public and starts telling people that they're an aspie, does NT things despite claiming to be an aspie. It makes people think "well this person I knew said they where an aspie yet they could do this, this, this" and makes them look down on people like me (as if it didn't happen enough).

If I offend i'm sorry, I don't socialize much and I live in an intolerant world that constantly compares me to it. I'm merely expressing an opinion. I suppose I should include a little more about myself since this is a "getting to know each other" topic.. eh.. Well my name is Troy, I program computers as a hobby, I take very long bike rides and hikes to clear my head which also keeps me fit enough to be a little more socially excepted (xD as if that helps), uh... my parents used to beat me until they found out I have asperger's syndrome (lucky me  ), My favorite kind of programming is game programming, The kind of programming i'm best at though would be.. taking complicated tasks and making them into a simple click of a button.

If you're confused by this sentence I wouldn't be surprised as I mostly type these things as I think them (at 120 words per minute >.<).

EDIT: Just a quick topic here.. Halloween is coming up soon and it's my mom's birthday on that day.. She wants me to attend parties/bars whatever with her on that day now that i'm old enough. She had an idea that I could wear a mask and hopefully it would be easier for me as people can't see my eyes possibly therefore they don't expect them to meet their gaze. Do you think this would work?

Welcome to WrongPlanet!

I understand what you're saying about self-diagnosis - I don't particularly have a viewpoint on it as I haven't met that many of them.
Hope you enjoy your stay here :)

Thanks, I never knew there was such an active website with people just like me, so it's pretty cool to find this place.
