Hi I'm new here! Looking for Math loving aspie women like me

I was diagnosed with Asperger's several years ago. The Asperger's can be quite a pain in the a*s I know. However, for an aspie, I'm EXTREMELY open-minded. Maybe it's b/c I've felt so misunderstood by other ppl my whole life, I'm extremely accepting of almost everyone. My job is a biostatistician, just starting out. I love programming in Mathematica and have to program in SAS a lot for my job. I have an NT boyfriend who is really cool and open-minded and accepting of me and my full-blown aspie-ness! However, my biggest problem is that I try to hide my aspie side from NTs almost always and it can be extremely draining. Also, most ppl I work with are NTs, but NTs annoy me!

Does anybody else struggle with hiding and fighting off their aspie-ness?

Hi welcome. i like math for the most part(not love as i am very bad at the basics). 54+62= o_O;...but i am good with more difficult things so its weird.

I think SOME math is pretty fascinating... but I'm more of a verbal girl. RIDICULOUSLY verbal... hehehe

The most facsinating math-related thing I've EVER seen is when a friend of mine showed me how, though simple algebra, he could make 0 = 1...

(EDIT) BTW, if you yourself know how to do this little parlour trick, I would absolutely love to see it again!

It's one of my favourite proofs. Believe it's quite easily achieved using infinity as a denominator. That may not have been the method you were thinking about.

Now though, I will not try and hide it. (I will try and act as normal as I can around people, but I will not pretend I don't have it). It can be very rewarding looking at it from a positive aspect.

I sleep a lot in the day, possibly for the same reasons. It is very draining constantly trying to think of teh right thing to say etc. I try and keep my silliness under control, most of the time it's fun, but too much probably annoys people.

Yes I struggle especially after a long day at work I'm a right little *******.

Welcome to WP too. I think it's very common to try to fit in with NT people, and to find this very stressful. I was only diagnosed this year. I've been faking NT for over 25 years as an adult. I suspect that all of us that try to do this, find it draining. You're fortunate to have found a caring NT guy. I would be interested to learn whether your partner helps you cope with the stresses of having to fake NT. Although he does not know what it's like to have AS, I would imagine that you can talk to him about how this makes you feel, and perhaps this helps you deal with the stresses and strains of everday life in an NT world.

I have loved mathematics all my life. One of my brief relationships with an NT woman started so promisingly with us exchanging mathematical puzzles via email at work. I found this so satisfying. The relationship failed as soon as it progressed to a more emotionally demanding level.

I wonder if you've ever read the book, "The Man Who Loved Only Numbers" by Paul Hoffman. It describes the extraordinary life of the Hungarian mathematical genius, Paul Erdös.

I like math, but I'm a male. I will still be able to give you some good advice, though.

I have a love/hate relationship with math. When I was a kid I started hating it right about the same time as we started learning long division. I was a challange to me and I hated challanges. So, I pretty much gave up on it. MY fascination was always with language, so I stuck with that for a long while.

Now that I am older, I have learned to enjoy challanges. I am now studying trig, geometry, Ohms Law, ect,. and loving it! It's funny how people change.

As for trying to fit into the NT world, I only found out about AS a few years ago when my son was diagnosed. I have been different my whole life and gave up on any attempts at fitting in when I was a kid. I can not say that not fitting in has been a bad thing. I have my husband and my kids, that is all I need. We lead a quiet, peaceful life (most of the time). It makes me happy.
