New to WrongPlanet
I am new here, so I thought I would introduce myself.
I am 41, married, have two dogs, and live in Pennsylvania. I am currently awaiting my formal diagnosis; the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation is setting up the evaluation.
My interests are languages, particularly grammar; trivia, history, and calligraphy. I got into calligraphy when I was younger to improve my handwriting; it has not helped, but I have done some good calligraphic work. All my interests have been with me since childhood.
I don't have any real friends, but I do some volunteering to give myself opportunities at socializing, which I have always had a hard time with at work. I am out of work right now.
WrongPlanet looks like a comfortable place.
Thanks,
Cato

Welcome to Wrong Planet! What languages do you study? I am so happy to find someone who likes grammar! With most people it goes like this:
"Magic, how did you spend the weekend?"
"Oh, I had great time!"
"Really? What did you do?"
"I spent Saturday learning about quantum electrodynamics, but on Sunday I wanted some lighter entertainment, so I switched to the grammar of Basque language."
"Oh, errr, hmmm..." [discussion ends]
This conversation really happened.
I am very good at Classical and Medieval Latin and Middle English, decent at Greek, French, German, Anglo-Saxon, able to read a smattering of others. The development of languages fascinates me, as well as the working out of things like Grimm's Law.
My dogs have Latin names. My penchant for bringing up Latin phrases and words seems to be a not altogether favorable trait.
Thank you to all for the welcome.

Now that you mention it, I've gotta ask: Why the Basque language? It's only spoken in Spain, and only the Basque people there speak it. That language seems useless, but I can see how you would be interested if you were obsessed with language and grammar or if you were planning a trip to Spain.
I'm obsessed with spelling words and vocabulary, but that is useless now since spelling bees only go up to 6th grade where I am at. I also don't need vocab as the majority of Neurotypicals in my age group shun a big vocabulary as annoying, intricate, and unnecessary. Or they're just jealous.
Anyway, I'm glad I'm not the only one interested in languages. I would like to learn many languages, but I must take it one step at a time. Tee hee!
Its a great intellectual challenge, apparently - it is sometimes classed as "the most difficult language in the world" to learn, as it has no relationship to any other Indo-European languages, and has a unique and very complex grammar.
