Hi
I joined WP a few weeks ago. I got an official opinion by a Psykologist a few weeks ago (not a real diagnosis). No doubt - Aspie and a female aspie with male aspie traits (according to psykologist). No wonder I felt "different" and feel much more at home here. Getting my "diagnose" is such a relief - makes sooo much sense. But also scary to see all the negative traits written down - oficially.
I have dyscalculia (math-blindness) which I am learning has a lot of traits in common with Asperger (face blindness, among others). Got through university - biology and geography - due to very stubborn personality and ability to learn things by heart.
At the moment I am going through a divorce (husband left about two months ago). He named all traits that are Aspie, as the ones he couldn´t stand - and left. Told me that trying to get a diagnosis was a way of not wanting to work with myself, and that I was only trying to get other people to do the hard work (instead of me realising how wrong I am as a person). Besides he thinks I should see a therapist, to sort of get me on the right track
Just now I am trying to sort my life out, and trying to be able to stay in the house (which we bought a few months ago
) He left (moved to at hotel Mother (free homemade meals, someone to look after the children and someone to wash the clothes)) and let me take care of things.
Well, turns out I really am the weird one
which is ok with me.
The stress of the divorce made an old post traumatic stress burst into full bloom (not sure about this expression - might be a direct translation from my mother tongue). Seeing a shrink for the PTS.
I have four boys aged 12 to 2 (the twins are two years old). The oldest got diagnosed with epilepsia last fall. At least one of them show traits of Asperger.
I was supposed to start a new job two weeks after he left. Couldn´t face it - at alllll. Luckily I held onto it, and postponed it for a while. I am now about to start an industrial Ph.D. Looking forward to do some fun work combining interest and work . Stretching the Ph.D to four years, instead of three. Will get less pay but more time - which is invaluable with four children.
I guess it sometimes can be very pratical to have Aspergers. It makes it much easier to see the logic and try to move forward instead of getting dragged down by the situation?
Love being here, I already got some help from the forum.
