It all makes sense now
Hi everyone,
I found my way here because I have been dating a man for a little over 6 months who I love very much. One of the things that attracted me to him was his quirky yet brilliant personality. As our relationship became more serious, I started to pick up on idiosyncrasies of his that began to concern me. He wouldn't listen when I talked. Our conversations became one-sided and mainly consisted of him rambling on and on and I'd be lucky to get a word in edgewise. He seemed completely focused on himself and seemed to live in a world of his own, and then he would flip and become incredibly loving, yet always remained slightly awkward about it. Making plans with him was like pulling teeth. He seemed to have no sense of social cues, and had absolutely no filter when it came to saying what was on his mind. To anyone else, he would just seem like some pretentious conceited jerk that was obsessed with industrial history and physics. Then, I rented the movie Adam, and it all made sense. I know not everyone is a fan of this movie, but it was like a light went off in my head as I watched it (Hence my nickname...haha). He has not been clinically diagnosed, but I am going to talk to a therapist about him, and see what her opinion is about the situation.
Now that you know a little about me and my situation, I just wanted to say how wonderful it was to find this site and finally be able to talk to other people about this! I'd love to hear other stories from other NT's dating aspies, so please don't be a stranger. I'd love to hear from you!
Michelle
Hi BethBuchwald! Welcome to Wrong Planet! Check out the many different interesting and helpful forums here. You are among friends here at WP!
WP provides info, social contact, and discussion forums on many topics. Some are for spectrum related disorders, and some have nothing to do with it. This is a gathering place for both people on the spectrum, and normal people who are their friends and relatives.
I have looked at other regular social network sites, like Facebook and Twitter, but found they have no interest to me, and don't seem to serve my needs, so I have never registered with any of them. WP, on the other hand, does fit my interests and needs, so I am registered here. I am also registered at sites that are related to specific topics of interest also, like Dear Abby (I like to read and respond there), and a number of political news letters. I am registered at a few other places as well, including a few online newspaper sites, but I don't think I will ever register with the regular social network sites.
I hope you like WP. I do! ![]()
