Hi im a mother of 2 boys 13 & 6, the 6 yr old seems to have an ASD, i found this out 2 yrs ago and he has been assessed and we were told no as school say he is 'fine' so thats why they refused to dx him coz of school. Well i can tell you that school was far from fine i have had to try and educate staff there but to na avail and now i am Home Educating my son as he was becoming incresingly depressed about school. His 'difference' stood out and he was being bullied this i had witnessed myself within the school grounds and every day my son was coming out of school having major meltdowns.

I have seen a Paed for 2nd opinion now and he said to me Aspergers but he can not dx and it would have to be a team of pro's so we are awaiting an appt at a specialised centre far from our local area, the LA where i live dont give a damn, i knew that before my son got assessed i had to practically beg them to recognise he needed assessing. Yet the Paed my son has now is the first professional i have seen in last 4 years ( there have been no end of professionlas involved in Ts little life ) that seem sto show compassion and most of all he doesnt blame me for my sons behaviour, his understanding and conern about T is outstanding

Hello Alexia, I'm ten years further along my life compared to your son. I hope he is doing well and has a promising life ahead of him. I'm wondering what his obsession(s) is/are, and how does he express it? Does he collect it, if possible? Does he talk about it at every passing moment? I remember as a kid how I used to talk about nothing but Playstation, but fortunately I had some great friend who have helped me keep my balance on the edge of the knife that we call life. Hi there

My son has many obsessions, numbers, countries and Capital Cities and football. He talks about football non stop nad he can tell you who plays for what teams. Also he can tell you match scores, he studies the tables in great length, he amazed his Paed the other week with answering a football question ( Paed asked what the score was for a match ) he knew the answer straight away no prob, thats my boy! General Knowledge is his passion also, he watches programmes like who want to be a millinaire, university challenge, weakest link and countdown.

Nice to meet you i was very pleased to have met your mum and she confirmed alot of things which i had going on in my mind. She told me about this forum but i didnt know what your name was but now i do!!

Hi Alexia and Welcome to WP . I'm also in the UK and home educating our youngest son(almost 8 years old). I understand your situation completely, having been there myself. Our son's health greatly deteriorated in both private and public school settings due to the lack of specialist training provision and general understanding of autism despite being "statemented". I fully support the "Make School Make Sense" campaign underway here and the LEA was very supportive of our decision to take our son out of school. I wish you well.
