You all have no idea (though I'm sure you actually do) how freakin excited I was to find this website. First off, I am completely undiagnosed. In fact, I'm fairly new to discovering Asperger's Syndrome but, after reading pages and pages of information, am 100% positive that I have some form/degree of Asperger's (or other PDD) according to symptoms and descriptions of AS idiosycrasies i.e. stims, tics, social problems, peculiar speech, clumsiness, etc.

I hope I don't sound like some foolish neurotypical who thinks he has a disorder just because he's got social stress or he taps his foot in class -- I really just want to engage in a forum where I can freely talk about my symptoms and fragile psyche without timidity or shame.

Before I'd heard about AS, I was beginning to lose hope in my social endeavors and it was really, really wearing on me -- I was constantly blaming myself or thinking I was just going insane as I matured and could readily differentiate NT social behaviors from my own peculiar ones (especially in my ignorant, intolerant Southern university setting). Looking back, I can now see that I'd always had certain undetected AS characteristics my entire life.

This was my fundamental problem and cause of my circular tug-o-war in my own head: Because I could pretty much do most things NTs could so sufficiently or better, I simply could not begin to admit that I was physiologically different from my peers. Instead, I blamed myself (and was also blamed by friends and family) for my strange behaviors. I was starting to believe that I was in some sort of eternal Catch-22 that was literally going to drive me mad.

But, anyways, hey, here I am! I feel better already :D. Soooo, let me just prematurely thank everyone here (members, admins, founders) for creating and supporting such a crucial and compelling outlet (to vent/discuss/JUST FEEL COMFORTABLE AND SANE) for people like me.

I look forward to meeting you all.

Jake

Hey there!

Welcome!

I don't believe anyone would read all the symptoms and self-diagnose in order to lie, meaning I believe you.

I understand your story oh too well, first off I blamed everyone else, then I blamed myself, then I started to lose hope alltogether.

Since discovering this forum I've learnt so much about myself and relating to others, I've also learnt that the way I have to "act" simply to speak to others is something I don't do alone!

Sure you'll get some comments saying you're faking, you'll also get some negative criticism, but you'll also get open minded people rebutting such statements.

I look forward to hearing about your interests, your story, and whatever else you may want to share.
