which is kind of silly, I know. Somehow, knowing something is silly, though, doesn't make the panic go away.

I'm new. I am 34...I have a 6yr old with Aspergers and a 5 yr old with Autism.

I think probably I lean towards some of those tendencies, myself..I recognize things in them that, when I was a child, made me feel alienated and misunderstood.

I want them to grow up and feel proud of their individualism. never ashamed. different is never anything to be ashamed of. (too bad it took 20 years for me to realize that. maybe I wouldn't have hid so much.)

and..umm...the panic is coming back. I was going to tell my favorite joke, ever....but I think I should just go away.

heya. thank you for the welcome. I'm in Melbourne. seeing as no one knows where that is, it is about an hour south of where the Space Shuttle launches from.

I've lived in Daytona Beach and ST. Augustine...that is as far north as I've gone.

I know where Melbourne is, my family lives on Merritt Island! My cousin's a nurse and worked at the hospital in Melbourne until my mother passed away about 10 years ago. What do you do in Melbourne?

get out of town! no one ever knows where Melbourne is! I pretty much grew up here...went to Mel Hi and such. I moved away, then back..all of my family (immediate) is here.

I homeschool my boys. they were in public school for a bit..."developmental delay" preschool and such...my older son did well in K..the teacher understood his needs....but when he was in 1st grade...the teacher seemed unwilling to accomodate his needs.

At the same time, my 5 yr old was in a class with 4 other boys with autism, but they were all non-verbal, whereas my son is very verbal.

I just decided that a stranger didn't know my children better than I did. now, I homeschool them.

unschool, really.

they learn more, and are happy. what more could I want for them?

I love being with them. when they go to sleep, I play video games to clear my head so I can sleep.

Yes, I lived there since I was 3, went to Merritt Island High School, came to FSU and just never left. Now I work at the university Library which is really, really cool.

That's cool that you're homeschooling/unschooling your boys. Elementary Education is one of the numerous degrees I almost completed. Couldn't deal with the public education sustem. Too much system, not enough education.

Video games, huh? I play some video games. What games do you like to play?
