Well I found this site around a month ago and after looking around for a while I thought it was time to introduce myself. Having aspergers syndrome really made it fun to read this forum and see lots of other people who I could tell are a lot like me, but also a lot different. That's what I find so interesting about aspergers everyone who has it all seem to have certain things in common (such as lacking social skills and sensory issues) but also are completely different (such as having different special interests and just being completely unique in general)
I am a college student who is majoring in psychology. I was diagnosed with aspergers at age 5 (probably a lot earlier than most people on here) I had lots of issues at first socializing with people but around the time I started high school I felt like I was starting to be able to socialize with people. However, since then a lot has changed. Now I feel like a NT and most people can't tell that I have aspergers. I used to have a lot of special interests but now I'd say my only two are music and NHL hockey. I've always wanted to have a girlfriend with aspergers to avoid having to act "socially correct" at all times but as time goes on it looks like that's likely not going to happen and I've accepted having a NT girlfriend won't be too bad
So that's pretty much all I wanted to say about myself. I'm not going to be someone that posts here often but I'll try to post here sometimes when I get a chance. See you around!
Huh, that situation sounds familiar... I was also dx'ed early in life. My parents had me go through social skills therapy, and they also stonewalled the idiot admins at my school who were trying to have me put into the Special Ed. classes, despite the fact that my IQ outstripped the standard class's average by far. To this day, all you have to do is mention my mothers name to the people at the Shelby County School Board in Memphis, TN. GUARANTEED FEAR. Lol my mom was such a b***h, but she was a b***h for my sake and that's what matters.
Anyways, I'm a college student studying Computer Science. Nice to meet you. TBH a lot of the people on here haven't progressed as far as you and I have in terms of being able to function normally in society. This is by no means a bad thing, but it's kind of hard to relate. I'd welcome having someone to talk to who was dx'ed early and is about the same level socially that I am.
