After already spending WAY too much time on here reading, I figured it was time to say hi.
"Hi"
Very glad to have found this place.

Not sure what to say as I'm currently mostly confused. I'm female, in my early to mid 30s. After being "spotted" by an acquaintance who is an Aspie himself (and realizing that what he told me about his life eerily matched up with a whole set of off-standard bits in mine that I had never figured out exactly what to make of), I've just gone through a diagnostic process at the local psychiatric hospital this spring, and was found to "very likely" have Asperger's (with an AQ of 36 and an EQ of 19). Which is not exactly the kind of clear answer I was hoping for :? but I guess it's as much as I can rely on until/unless I find the strength to attempt this again with a different psychologist.

Thinking of myself as an Aspie feels right to me, in any case (although this whole process of uh, recalibrating who I am and what any of this means is really rather hard – I oscillate between feeling liberated and condemned); I joke to myself that I'm Undercover Aspie most of the time. I guess you could say I'm fairly well adapted at least in the bits of my life that are visible to the outside world; I'm also in the 'intellectually gifted' IQ range so I have a bit of extra brainpower to devote to seeming more 'normal' than I am, I guess. I work mostly alone, live alone (these feel non-negotiable), have not been in a relationship in years (and the longer that goes on the more I wonder if I could even do that again) but at least on a superficial level I function fairly well – meaning I have a few (very few) friends, a circle of acquaintances who as far as I can tell are generally happy to see me, and I'm doing quite okay at putting on the social mask for a limited time, as long as I know I'm free to retreat to my safe zone. I guess that most people who don't know me very well (and have not caught me talking to myself in public  or having to shut down after too much social contact) think of me as maybe a bit geekish and shy (or too loud, sometimes) but wouldn't suspect anything "deeper" … until people really become friends (or even more) and then my cluelessness becomes [more] apparent.

Ah see, I'm babbling. Not sure if there were any questions in all that or if I just needed to get it out of my system. Anyway, I'm happy to be among people who get what I'm talking about, hopefully. :)

Hi and welcome... I wondered, which movie is your avatar picture from? Maybe your favorite movie?

:D good!
Thanks.

AspieSharaf: my avatar picture is a still from Fight Club, which I guess you could say is one of my favorite movies. (It helps that that there is Edward Norton who is also one of my favorite actors.) I have a small set of movies that I like to re-watch time and again and Fight Club is one of them. That ending scene and especially that line (“you met me at a very strange time in my life") has been on autorepeat in my mind the past months... it seems fitting. :)

I see... I also like that movie a lot, but then again I haven't meet anyone who didn't like it :) . I also re-watch some movies again and again. I must have seen Aliens at least 60 times or so.

Wow, that's impressive. I bet you've picked up on really awesome little hidden details that people don't see who just watch it once or twice.

My favorite movie of all time (this includes the future of course, unless, I don't know, unthinkable things happen) is 2001: A Space Odyssey, but I watch it rarely. I've seen the whole thing about 7 or 8 times, so far.

Yes I have most certain seen all the little tings which you do not see the first or second time.
I really get upset when I think about the fact that the original version in the cinemas didn't feature the sentry guns. I just cannot understand that you would leave out such a fantastastic scene, and they just did it beacuse they had to cut down the playing length. :x

But now I'm happy again beacuse you like 2001 :D I am even more happy to report that it is on my top5 movie list. I just love that movie so much. Now please, would you be so kind to tell me, which scene from 2001 is your favorite?

This is really hard to decide! I've been thinking about it on and off all day. There are a few likely candidates but I'm not sure – I don't have a list of favorite scenes already, so I'll need to think about it some more and make one. :) I'll get back to you soon.

I have made a topic in the television, tv and movie forum called "best scene in 2001: a space odyssey"
When you have decided which scene you like the most, please come to that forum and speak your mind freely about one of the worlds best movies
(Sorry about my english, Im "only" on level C1)
