Hello everyone,
I'm a 25 year old girl from Germany, currently failing university... (what a great way to introduce myself)
I'm confused whether I might have a mild form of Aspergers, so that's how I found the forum. I found the Aspergers quiz on a language forum (I'm once again a bit obsessed about language study) and decided to take it because I like quizzes
I had never before thought of the possibility that I might be on the spectrum, although I thought that it fit my dad rather well. But when I took that questionnaire I was baffled that there were several questions which perfectly described some of my idiosyncrasies that I had never before found an explanation for and I had never before seen a relation between them. I only knew that I was a bit unusual. I dismissed that information at first, but eventually started to look into Aspergers more, because I was intrigued. When I read about Aspergers in girls I could hardly believe it - there seemed to be a connection between more supposedly unrelated things - starting to read early and a lot, being off in my own world with imaginary friends (unicorns and the like), being bossy and excessive copying as a child, feeling different, conversational issues, etc.
I still have no clue whether I have Aspergers or some other issues which just happen to coincide. I always thought I was good at reading people, I'm able to tell apart sad and angry faces and I can usually deal with people's emotions, too. I'm a bit socially awkward, but generally well-liked when I'm not bossy, I guess. But I still get the feeling that my communication is off at times - sometimes only slightly, sometimes noticeably. When I'm not totally in the moment it's like it takes me a little too long to process information - or I do process it, but it doesn't translate into me reacting to it. I'm going to talk to a psychologist soon, because of my academic problems, and I'm not sure whether I should mention Aspergers... I'll see how it goes.
Sorry for rambling. I'll leave you with the message that whether I'm an Aspie myself or not, from what I read there are many interesting and congenial people here, so I'd love to stick around.
