2mydeath, you my friend are lucky. I was in the air force for a year and 3 months before i just got out in october. they labeled me with everything but asperger's syndrome, and got rid of me with an official diagnosis of PTSD. Even when I brought up the possibility that I was autistic I was pretty much laughed at and told, "asperger's syndrome is ONLY diagnosed in early childhood" and "you can't be autistic because you have good social skills". Realize Im 21 years old and had an older brother who has ass loads of personality, as well as my father(RIP) was a great man who taught me enough before he passed away when I was 9. My intellect is what has given me the courage to be as good as I am with people, and thats not that great anyways. Never had a girlfriend, or many friends in general. Hate to say it but I wish I would have joined the army, they at least seem to care about thier people. AF people are smug and think they're the best, army seems down to earth.
Oh my goodness, the old "early childhood" line. As if to say, "We who are in medicine are perfect and we diagnose everyone correctly and promptly, so it is impossible that someone with AS as a child would escape our keen eye and survive to adulthood undiagnosed." I even got that line in passing conversation with a staff member of a medical school's admissions department! In the Army it's not a matter of caring so much as compettition. "What'd you diagnose today?" "Oh two bi-polars and a faker. You?" *drumroll* "I diagnosed a Soldier with Aspergers Syndrome!" *fanfare and immidiate promotion to coolest shrink*
I'm actualy working on my second relationship, though it may as well be my first because it is the first since starting dietary intervention (Gluten Free). It has worked untold wonders in every aspect of my life. 'Tis amazing what poison we are fed all our lives.
