I was diagnosed with Asperger's about 8 years ago but I have always known I was different.

I am here primarily to find out how to function successfully in my romantic relationship. Communicating does not come naturally to me.

My main difficulties are with staying outside of myself enough to be a supportive partner, and helping her to understand my weird sensory issues. I have a lot of trouble with sound. Everything is too loud. Sometimes it is hard to be in a room when another person is breathing in there. (Though I suppose if they weren't breathing, that would be complicated too.) I hate being around anyone who is eating. Being in a room with a television is outright torture. I am learning to compromise but it isn't easy.

My main coping technique is music. Plug in my earbuds and the world disappears for a while.

Have you tried those little cheap ear plugs? They might muffle the sound without completely checking out like listening to music. Just explaining my sensory needs goes a long way with my partner. It's been a learning curve for him, though. After a year, we really don't have too much trouble with the sensory stuff. He still feels bad when I have to shut down after work and can't really interact at the level he wants. :( But I think he understands that it's not because I don't want to, it's that I can't at that moment.
