Hello

I'm new to this forum.
I'm here because I think I've been under Asperger's umbrella since my childhood. I'm 38 years old.
Always undiagnosed, suffered depression many years, and I've also struggled with addictions (tobacco, alcohol), mainly to overcome my Aspie problems.
Depression was a huge problem by many years. Until I quit smoking (2005) and alcohol (2009), I didn't feel I could control my life at all.
Five years ago, my life changed for good: I meet a girl. I realized how important is love. (I didn't had the slightest idea that true love was so much powerful! She was not my first girlfriend, but I never was really happy before meeting her).
In 2011 I discovered I was an Aspie. I understood the whole picture. I felt relief... and some kind of inner peace.

But...
Since a couple of months my girlfriend has been very depressed. I suppose she has ASD (mild autism), but it's so difficult to talk with her when she's having one of these "meltdowns". She won't listen to me, she only cries and yells for hours... She also beats herself, with her hands or with a belt.
A few weeks ago, she talked about suicide. Yesterday she said it again: that she's is thinking about suicide (if she fails to accomplish a particular task). She's going to therapy, just because I thought that it was the best thing she can do now.
Recently I talked with her family. I don't know if it was a good idea: everyone says "you gotta do this and that" and criticizes her (ignoring that's not good for a depressed person!), but nothing else...
I fear she might kill herself. I'm desperate.

Best regads,
WM

PS - I'm reading this forum since a year ago, but never feel the need to speak
