I'm Gregor, I'm 23 and I was diagnosed with Asperger's/Atypical Autism last november. I'm living in south Germany and I'm the bassist in a post rock/alternative rock band and even though I'm not getting any money by that it's the one thing that comes closest to a relevant job in my live.

I'm not that familiar with humans, but I learned a lot during the last few months... what I still don't get is why most of our interactions seem to result in hurting each other, intentionally or not.

Anyways, I came here because I seek familiar minds and also because I'm a little bored with the forums I'm registered currently.

Gregor...

Hi Gregor and welcome, do you have any YouTube clips of your band in action?

As for Humans, I think they are in a downward spiral were they have all learned to hurt and mistrust each other and so have to increase their nastiness for protection or something.

Best thing to do is swim against the flow and be as nice as you can be, even to the nasty ones, show by example a better road for Humanity to walk down.

I need to have 5 posts before I can post a video here, sorry... but I will as soon as I have.

I don't like the thought everything was going down (which you didn't imply, but of which I was reminded) because it makes improvement almost impossible... I noticed the same thing as you; but I do have a few caring friends who happen to have made experiences way worse than anything I could imagine could happen to me and they still are amongst the nicest people I know.

I try to be nice and helpful and not resort to comforting buzzwords when someone I like feels sad... but in other situations I'm just as arrogant and egotistic as anyone. Maybe worse.

Humans are selfish and the most selfish of us manage to survive and make little copies of ourselves. Even when we're helping out our families, we're still increasing the likelihood of similar genes being passed on. To me one of the few perks of society is getting to pick our own "families" to help out. I'm pretty cynical but optimistic at the same time.

I liked your song. What post rock bands have you been listening to? The only ones I'm very familiar with are this will destroy you and explosions in the sky who are both from my home state of Texas!

I am very fussy concerning music Gregor, I dont even listen to the radio as they never play a song I actually like, more that I actually cannot bare to listen too.

And German rock generally sounds to me like exaggerated macho shouting.

But that track you posted Gregor, I genuinely liked it, it has feeling and emotion in it as well as being musically interesting.
I even bookmarked it.
Any more?

I know as humans we're still victim to the process of selection.. but we also have an ability to overcome these effects. We can self-reflect and actually think of the consequences of our actions before.

Thanks :) I don't listen to that much post rock as most bands sound too 'nice' to me, but there's still some bands I enjoy; you should try Keretta; they're a little off from the usual sound, doing a lot with pitch shifters and such. From time to time I listen to a lot of bands that cross over post rock and screamo... Le Pré Où je Suis Mort, Sed Non Satiata and such.

Thanks :) Yes, there's a lot of bands in my area that are barely original and only play the usual 4-Chords-that-Made-a-Million only it won't make said million for them because everybody has done it before. The kind of pop punk that has already been old twelve years ago. In the meantime there have come some other bands playing metalcore/deathcore, also all formulaic. Kinda sad, but I'm living around the countryside while there's a lot more original stuff in urban areas.

One thing before. Our singer is getting very different reactions. Some people really enjoy her voice, others don't like it at all... I'm aware something of the sort will come

I just played that second song, and I really really like it, its late at night and so suitable for the songs atmosphere, in the light of day it wouldnt seem so right to me, its a night song.
As for her voice, what she is doing is right for the song, but I do think she struggled a bit, seemed to get better towards the end, sounded like she was a bit nervous maybe?, it doesnt matter so much about how beautiful a persons voice is, or not, but it has to have confidence and conviction behind it whereas I think she sounded a bit hesitant and wobbly.
I generally like singing that's a bit off, Nico for instance, one of my favourite voices isnt even a singing, just the One Man Bands girlfriend who used to accompany him occasionally, you can hear her here:-

Well she had been a member since about two weeks before the recording, maybe this has something to do with that...

Can't watch it in my country, sorry :( Do you have another video with them?

Nico was cool with Velvet Underground. That record was creepy as a hospital at night.

You wont actually see them in a Video, I dont think any exist, but you can hear them, try this link:- DUSTER BENNETT LINK

Maybe you wont like Blues, but I post it to let you hear her voice.
On a record Forum, somebody else was asking about her and somebody else was actually her son who said his Mother was most amazed that people actually wanted to hear her voice!

Sorry, I encounter the same problem with this link. Is there a bandcamp?

As for my band, we're history now. The drummer, the guitarist and me will continue under another name and with another style... let's just see what happens from then on.
