I discovered Wrong Planet a few months ago, but I've only just managed to get around to registering for some reason.
I haven't been formally diagnosed, but one of my friends said, 'You definitely have Asperger's Syndrome. You should look it up.' So I did, and suddenly my life made sense! I always used to wonder why I was different.

My interests have always been unusual. I used to be fascinated by prime numbers, military aircraft and tanks, which is definitely unusual for a seven-year-old girl (I'm still interested in military aircraft 8 years later, but at least I know one other person who's equally obsessed). Currently, I'm obsessed with maths (especially number theory), but no-one I know understands how fascinating and fun it is apart from my maths and physics teachers. Everyone else seems to spend their time talking about celebrities, relationships and TV.

I've been described (probably inaccurately, but maybe not) by various people as a genius, stupid, a really nice person, a really annoying person, like Sherlock Holmes, and a sane person in a mad world.

I had a bit of an obsession with military aircraft too when I was younger. Can still name most jet fighter aircraft, haha.

I've tried to learn military aircraft recognition but I'm failing epically lol.

Welcome. Don't feel strange for being fascinated with numbers and math. I am the same way. As a child, I learned in geometry that it was impossible to trisect an angle (through proofs and axioms anyway, not practically). I laid in bed that night and obsessed about it until I found a way to do it. I was so excited!! Then about an hour later, after having laid there squirming with excitement about what I had discovered, I realized that there was a flaw in my logic. I was so bummed. Not typical behavior for a middle-schooler, but there it is LOL.

Then as an adult I became obsessed with computer programming. Within two months I had learned VBA well enough to where I created a complex budget sheet in Excel for my wife to use.

Later, I became obsessed with cryptography. Within about two months (magic number?) I had invented my own encryption scheme (not from scratch mind you, but the basic idea was original to me, as far as I know anyway), and I programmed an Excel sheet to encrypt text.

My point: there is nothing wrong with fascination and even obsession as long as it does not get out of control. I would venture to say that's always the challenge, no?

I was seriously addicted to the Ace Combat games. Still kind of am, lol. Can't help myself.

I had to learn AirRec with the RAF and because I'm so bad at it they never put me in for the competitions even though I'm the best person at drill lol.

Oooh, a fellow Armed Forces person?

I would have loved to join the RAF if the thought of all that military doctrine didn't make me so uncomfortable. I was with the TA for a few months and was so bad at mingling and messed up during drill a few times. Staff Sergeant said turn left - I turned right, that's what I remember clearest. But I could read a map, put a rifle back together in the dark, and hit a target well enough, so I guess that's how I passed the training, lol. The thought of doing it full time was a bit too much though.

Oh no I am non-commissioned I'm usually the best drill person on parade, good first aider and navigator, and not bad as a shooter. But I was so bad at AirRec they wouldn't take me to national competitions :/

Eh, still counts. That sucks that they wouldn't let you come along though.

I know :/ I would have been a pretty good drill instructor because I shout loud enough. That's why they call me RAF mummy
