Hello, I'm a 55 year old male who has spent a lifetime being weird and eccentric (shudders) and discovering that I have Aspergers....which now no longer exists!
I don't much like internet fora and announcing myself gives me hives but here we are.
Aside from the general cheerful tone of this site I am impressed by the number of youngsters who are struggling with this syndrome and all the other offshoots of assorted autistic traits. My hat's off to all of you and I can only say how lucky you are to have this site. The Internet can be great.

I'm high functioning for the most part supported by a long suffering NT wife of 20 years who has the patience of Job. I have worked all my life, dated and made a mess of most of those freidnships, i suffer from a variety of social shortcomings but I always thought it was just me being an ass. I have reached a place where I enjoy my dog, my wife and my job (weird but true) and have come to terms with the fact that I don't need friends much, and though I fear loneliness it never seems to materialize.

cheers to you all
Michael

( I am too old and too settled to worry about who knows I have AS.)

57 y. o. undiagnosed, married, working (part-time social worker) - inability to deal with hospital politics ended my medical career - aspie here. my husband is madly in love, so he largely overlooks my "officiousness" (his word) and bluntness. I take his advice on social questions I have. he takes my advice on financial matters (mostly) and health matters. we're both basically decent people who treat each other well. I plan and cook healthy, tasty meals. he cleans. we are both quiet and enjoy plays and concerts. He's NT, but a bit eccentric and oh-so-affable. I compromise on safety issues that his natural caution makes him insist on (locked mailbox, for example). we are happy.

The division of labor thing works well at home. I work nights (when there are no office politics in play) and she's a teacher so she gets to socialize at night with her friends and I don't have to sit around and try to figure out how much to say and what about...an understanding spouse helps a lot.

I just got a private message from the RealAdriana asking me if I am worried about hell fire? Was that an expression of personal interest or is every unsuspecting newcomer subjected to that sort of nonsense?

Now THERE's a charming welcome! Sigh.

Well thats random, all I can say to that is that what lead me to discovering that I have AS was going from being a devout believer to being an outspoken atheist (talk about black and white thinking), perhaps she is at the extreme end of the spectrum and is being absolutely sincere in her concern for the salvation of your soul. BTW while I still identify with being an atheist religion still plays a big part of my life, as a Mormon I never believed in hell because according to Joseph Smith God loves all of his children and your place in the eternities is determined by your actions and not your beliefs, which is why I can be an atheist Mormon, my atheism is not by choice, but rather due to how my autistic brain functions, which is how God intended me to be, so its all Gods fault.

It's not a religious issue, its a matter of ambushing people who arrive on this forum. Bad enough to do it at all but to use such inflammatory language considering the reason that we come to this forum in the first place....That sort of message seems over the top to me.
Do me the courtesy of asking first if I have any interest in your beliefs then later start in on the hell fire and brimstone. Is that too much to ask?
