Recently I was watching "Ingenious Minds." Something somebody said caught my attention because I had never heard anybody except myself say it. What was it? I can't remember. But I kept watching, and I kept hearing things that sounded so familiar.

I had read a little about HFA and Asperger's, and I had thought it sounded familiar. I figured that I was just twisting things in my own head to match something I was reading about, so I didn't think much of it at the time. Then I heard people on that show describe the way they think, the way they struggle, and went back to reading.

Again I thought I was twisting things in my head, so I looked a little deeper. I looked for a forum covering this topic so that I could read what people with HFA and Asperger's had to say about their daily life. I can totally relate to almost every post on this forum. The struggles, the frustrations, the temper outbursts, the reason for the temper outbursts, etc. I'll even bet that most of you that read this will laugh when I say that I have tried to write an introduction several times only to delete each one for different odd reasons.

The one thing that keeps jumping out at me is when somebody describes their interactions with normal people. I never realized that normal people don't analyze EVERY LITTLE part of the interaction to make sure that they appear normal. Ranging from the words I pick to smiling, my body language, and above all else, I must look into the other person's eyes. Why am I supposed to do these things? I don't know, I was told too.

I am 47, married with children, on disability for a major balance problem (hence the user name... lol) and recently self diagnosed. I am here to start exploring the possibility that I may or may not have HFA or Asperger's. I want to say a whole lot more about myself, but I can't decide what is enough so I am going to leave it here.

Hi FallingDownMan,

Nice to hear your introduction. I was only diagnosed earlier this year, so I know how it feels to suddenly find an explanation for a lot of things in your life.

Welcome to Wrong Planet. :D

Me too. I got to 53 (ie: now) before I twigged why life has always felt so bloody difficult. It felt an enormous relief to realise there was a good reason and that it wasn't just that I'm crap!

Hi there and welcome to WP!
I was diagnosed this past year myself and a lot of the information you included in your post made me smile (particularly editing your introduction post several times and reviewing social interaction things.
This is a very supportive community, so I hope you enjoy being a part of it and can find what you're looking for!

@Technophobe, I'm still not buying in 100% that I am an aspie, but yes, if this is truly part of who I am then it explains a whole lot about me. I have started treating my daily life and how I react to things based on this new revelation about myself and things seem a lot calmer in my head.
