Hello,

I am Christian (29) and I am from Germany.

In 1979 when I was a little child (not 2 years old), a doctor told my mother I was autistic and I got some
therapies, but even tough I asket for reasons later no one ever told me. I was 21 when my
mother told it to me for the first time and I could hardly believe it. In my opinion I was too "normal" to be autistic... But not normal enough.... you know? As time went by it became more and more obvious to me and last year I got an official diagnosis : "high functioning autism". While I was waiting for the diagnosis I was sure it would be the answer to my questions, but now I have it and I think I am just at the beginning....

BTW I work as a programmer in a computer games company.

Of course there are forums about autism in German, but sometimes I think its very interesting for me to write things in English because it helps me to focus on words and theys meanig even more.

Christian

I don't think you know us, the name is 'H2F'. We released a submarine simulation last September ("1914 Die Schalen des Zorns"), but the English version is not finished yet.

Several years ago I worked for JoWooD, but when my division was closed I had to leave them.

Thank you (and all the others),

the best English teacher for me was the internet.

I have been on the net since 1994, I used a text-
only browser, connections were sloooooow, phone bills were
expensive and everything was English ! I did not know any
pages in German, but this whole thing was so fascinating and so impressive....
So I read newsgroups, tried the IRC and I learned a lot of English. It was so much more
interesting than the boring English lessons at school.....

not theys (the correction, I know, causes no offense)

Welcome Christian!! !

No one ever told me I was autistic, I had to find out in my 30s; but on a boat trip on the english channel when I was 3 or 4 I just... fell off the back, the water was so mesmerizing. For part of the rest of the trip my wrist was roped to a rail. :-)

Welcome!

Welcome, Christian!

I was born in Germany in 1964 and moved to California when I was three years old. I started school speaking mostly German, but I don't remember much of it now, except for words from my childhood.

Hello Christian, what part of Germany are you from?

I am life-long resident here in northeastern Wisconsin, in an area that was heavily settled by immigrant Germans in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

North Rhine Westphalia. A small town near Bochum in the Ruhr Area to be more exact.
At least you have the same traffic sign for "Autobahn"...
