Hello!
This is my first post here.
I've heard about Wrong Planet for a little while now and have heard very good things so I thought I'd give it a shot.
I'm 27, diagnosed with Asperger's and Bipolar.
The bipolar I've known about and been diagnosed with for a really long time.
The asperger's? Since 3 years ago, though I had a feeling I had it a few years before that.
In fact maybe like 5 or 6 years ago I started learning about AS and I even talked to my therapist at the time who agreed that it was a possibility (but didn't "officially" diagnose me). Then I mentioned the possibility to my mother, which didn't really go over that well...
"YOU DON'T HAVE THAT. YOU WERE TESTED FOR THAT WHEN YOU WERE LITTLE. YOU ARE WRONG."
Yup. That's pretty much what she said to me.
But then when I was officially diagnosed with it, suddenly her reaction was "Oh, yes, I remember you had suspected that before".
In all honesty, I am actually really surprised that nobody had suspected it before I brought it up! It seems so obvious to me now.
Eye contact has ALWAYS been an issue with me. That was one of the first symptoms I learned about that jumped out at me.
Sarcasm has always given me trouble. One sided conversations? Guilty.
Narrow interests? You bet!
It was like things started to make sense once I was diagnosed.
A little bit more about me that's not related to AS:
I am a musician and one of the biggest and most passionate music fans you will ever meet. I have had multiple people tell me that they have never met anyone as interested and knowledgable about music as me.
I'm very into classic Alternative Rock (1980-1995) and Electronic Music (from 1985 to 2000)
Some of my favorite musical artists are The Smiths, Depeche Mode and Daniel Johnston.
I play bass mostly but I also like synthesizers (via sequencer) and guitar.
There is more I could say but I feel like I'm going on long enough already.
I'm really looking forward to meeting new people like me here.
