I'm new here :D , and glad to find a community of other AS people. Besides AS, I'm bipolar and have ADD, though both are under treatment with prescriptions. While I'm very intelligent and creative, I have a lot of trouble with "teamwork" (better known as "office politics"), so I'm currently on disability. My psychiatrist has encouraged me to look into an endeavor that I will enjoy, funded via Nevada Rehab and the Ticket to Work program, instead of taking on the stress and BS that's endemic in the traditional work environment. Since I have some established talent with visual design and artwork, as well as extensive experience with computers, I'm seriously looking into computer art with a possible sideline in occasional graphics and web-page design. Something else positive: I'm starting to make some new friends among other AS people, instead of butting my head against the wall trying futilely to impress neurotypicals. I've long felt like I'm somehow on the wrong planet(!); it's nice to know that I'm not alone.

Gotta say,for a bunch of humorlous, selfish, self absorbed(OK,today I did have one of those days)unimaginitive, unempathetic freaks here...

I have had more reasons to laugh, seen more attempts to help others and found more creativity, then I have run into in the "real" world.....whats that about?Either there are no real aspies here or someone needs to look at redefining AS stereotypes.

Welcome

Thanks, dear.

Anyhow, bi-polar is really tough. Suspect that I am ('fraid to get DX - they might put me on drugs and all). Hope you get as much as I do out of this place though, there are some really beautiful people here.

The deal with Krex was an attempt a cynical humor. The negatives I mentioned are attributed to people with AS and my point was that none of them seem to be true from what I have experienced on this site.....ie....A lot of people here make me laugh out loud while reading their posts, seem to show a lot of compassion and concern to each other and offer very imaginitive advice.

Sorry to anyone who actually thought I was saying that those things were true about AS,I had just finished reading the topic about the book by the women who thinks all men with AS are jerks and I was pretty upset about all the bias against AS.

Howdy, I know well the bipolar route. Thing is this fits so much better. Now I question the bipolar, is there at all, is there some, I don't know. But this fits and current meds are working minor wonders. It can be a grueling road with the meds, been on it for 10+ years. The great thing is a good deal of what works for BP can help with AS. Just because you just found the site doesn't make you new to us. Enjoy the fresh air here, you deserve it.

Thanks for the welcome! It seems that there is a lot of correlation between bipolar and AS, which doesn't surprise me.

For those of you who haven't seen it before, I've added as my avatar a thumbnail of some artwork I did some time ago, as a "homework assignment" by the psychologist I was seeing at the time. Since then, I've had a number of requests for copies, and I even sold it once at a gallery exhibition in Reno. (For those of you who are interested, Reno hosts an Artown event every July, for the entire month. :) )
