Me! Hi, I'm Brandon, just turned 30 (Ouch!), from the SF Bay Area.

I was diagnosed with Asperger's three years ago, and promptly forgot about it. (Not literally, but it was just another diagnosis, and by that point I felt that I was who I was and didn't pay the diagnosis much mind.) I stumbled upon this site about a week ago while doing some casual research on Autism, as my cousin is "low-functioning" Autistic. I lurked for a while, liked what I read, and decided to join.

As AS relates to me: I work overnight, my "interests" include trains and mass transit, city planning and the urban landscape, and anything having to do with supermarkets. This last one may be a bit odd (even for around here!) but I'd be intrested to know if anyone shares a similar obsession. I enjoy most of the usual social and communication issues, and while I've developed pretty good coping strategies, I am still friendless outside of work and intimate relationships are... well - let's not go there!

Despite my "am who I am" philosophy, it was nice to read so many posts that caused me to smile and exclaim "That's me!" outloud. I am an individual, as are all of you I'm sure - but at the same time it's comforting for me to be able to relate to your experiences and feelings. Bravo to this site and all of you who post here. And thanks.

By the way, it's taken me 45 minutes to send this post. Not to write it - to send it. I think I'm ready to push the button!

*giggle* Nice to meet you Brandon! I wonder if I left my heart in San Francisco...(I know, a lame attempt at a joke...:))
It's nice that you are able to put your main interest to use in your career! I hope I would be able to turn what seems to be the negative aspects of my AS side into something positive and useful...Anyway, welcome, I wish you enjoy your stay here! :)

Hi Brandon - welcome to WP.

I often take ages to send a post. In my case it's because I worry about what I'm saying  - being an old so-and-so I'm still getting up to speed with all this modern technology

There are a few of us older Aspies around on the site (sadly I'm pushing the big four-oh at the moment  ).

Hope you enjoy the site.

Welcome Brandon to WP! Those sound like really cool interests! When I was young I liked city planning and maps. I loved the orginization of the cities. I would also design cities and counties of my own. However, I don't think anyone would want to live in that country, as it was just for me! Oh, I how I loved to go there!

I work with city planners, and I know all about urban landscape.

BTW, what's that on your avatar?

Tim

Thanks to all for the kind welcome.

Tim, my avatar is an over-simplified interior design schematic for a grocery store that I felt would be funny / ironic to me. This one's not mine, but I got on a kick a year or two ago and designed probably hundreds of them. Plotted their locations within the somewhat intricate cities I would design as well. I'd shop in my stores, but like cecil said above, I don't know if anyone else would! It sounds like you (Tim) do for a living what I do for fun. Yes, you could say that I'm underemployed, but content.
