Figured I might as well throw up a flag and see if anyone salutes. I'm a 46 year old man, who's been "different" all my life... but only a couple of years ago, through the help of a couple of friends, did I start to discover why. It was quite a liberating experience, finally being able to put a name on the "thing" that had haunted me all my life. And once I knew that, I could - and did - start learning to work around the problem.

I haven't actually been diagnosed with Asperger's, but I talked to my doctor about it and he said that my self-diagnosis was very likely correct. (Especially after I showed him all the research I had done on the subject, lol.)

Hi JonnyBGoode, and welcome to WrongPlanet.

Your story sounds a lot like mine. I was about your age when I discovered Asperger's, a couple of years ago. It is a relief to find out what the 'thing' is isn't it?

I hope you enjoy your time here. :)

Welcome! Isn't it good to finally be able to know why you've always felt different? My experience echoes yours... self dxed myself a couple months ago. Great to have you here.

Welcome! I just joined recently myself, having found this site after googling Asperger and going through a few pages. I was initially self-diagnosed (about a year ago); the perspective I found as a result helped pull together a lot of things for me. My psychiatrist was initially resistant to applying the AS diagnosis, but later he says he sees merit in that diagnosis -- I'd already been diagnosed bipolar and ADD anyway.

Anyway, I think you will find a lot of sympathetic people here.
