Growing up with Asperger's and Partial Agenesis

Hey Hey,

When my parents found out that I has Asperger's they where a little shocked but I think that they

both knew that there was something a little wrong with me I did not like to play with anyone at

all. I did not talk untill I was two. My parents always made things as normal as possible as they could. They always knew

there was something wrong but it was not until one of my teachers said that maybe they should

test me and see if I had autism. I also have what is called Partial Agenesis of the Corpus Colosum,

which means that the fibers that run between the right and left side of my brain are missing. Well, not all of them, hense the term Partial. I only have half of

them so it makes it hard for me to comprehend things and I really had a hard time at school. My

younger sister alway thought that I was strange, as did most of the people I knew from school and church. I know that it has been hard for her growing up

with someone who has challenges. I know that when she would bring her friends over to the house

her friends would look at me as being very weird. I know that there were times that I embarrassed her.

It was hard knowing that she had friends and I did not. When she got older she also had a boyfriend & that

was difficult seeing because I always wanted to have that and know what that was like. Were any of you

told that you would not be able to drive a car? I was told that and am taking the Trimet now but I

have always wondered if there were kids with asperger's that were able to drive.

Hi Bree,

I don't think you should listen too much to people that tell you you can't do something. They will talk you down and keep you from trying things that you may be fully capable of. As far as the driving thing goes I got my license at age 16.

Can you explain how the missing fibers between right and left brain were discovered? I've never heard of the agenisis thing. I've often thought if the correct tests were performed it would be physically evident why Aspergers people have the difficulties they do.

Hey. I envy you for knowing... I'm 21 now and have dealt with at very least memories of the symptoms and now i'm still not totally sure as i'm not medically diagnosed. Well the ADHD is there. I know that.]


Hang in there, It's not over yet.

Lots of things that I was not supposed to be able to do.

I am now 53 yrs old.

I have done all of them.

I have never ever listened to people who told me I couldn't do certain things. Most of the things I've done in my life that I really enjoyed, were things I thought I could never do.

It seems that autism has a lot to do with the neurological condition of the brain, especially regarding the connection between the right and left hemisphere...
I have always felt that I couldn't drive...I'm scared to drive actually...
