Hello

I've been lurking here for some time and thought I ought to introduce myself.

My name's Richard. I arrived here (the wrong planet, not the right one) in 1950.

As a professional chess teacher I've been working closely with AS kids for several years now. I've also been reading and researching the subject - obsessively so over the past few months.

As for myself, I pass all the online tests (AQ/RDOS/Geek), some comfortably, some fairly borderline. I was a lot more obviously Aspie as a kid than I am now so I guess I probably belong somewhere on the spectrum. At my age, though, I wouldn't get, nor do I need, a diagnosis.

What is a zwischenzug?

A Zwischenzug is an in-between move. If you take one of my pieces and, instead of taking back at once I do something else first, like a check, and then take back, that's a Zwischenzug.

What should I do if people don't play a kingside fianchetto against me when I play the Tarrasch defence after 1. d4 d5, 2. c4 e6, 3. Nc3 c5?

Also, what do I do if if they don't put their knight on d2 after 1. e4 e6, 2. d4 d5,?

You seem to know a lot - do you have a grade/rating? And why do you only play opening variations named after Tarrasch?

Anyway:

If you played the QGD Tarrasch against me you'd get 4. e3 with a boring QGD because it's 30 years since I last studied the theory.

In the French, if they play 3. Nc3 you can play Bb4 or Nf6, a matter of taste really. Against 3. e5 you play c5. Against 3. exd5 you play exd5 stifling a yawn.

All of which will mean absolutely nothing to anyone else reading this forum.

Nahh... im no professional, i find it real hard finding people to play with though... and i prefer to play face to face games




i prefer playing as black.... and i find this opening countergambit to provide the optimal means to either a successful Endgame or draw.

Probably not many places to play in Northants - but I can put you in touch with your nearest chess club if you want.

No shop talk here. I got sent to the wrong planet five years before you, we have a clubhouse here, The Dino Aspie Cafe, on the welcome thread. We sit and rock and talk about the good old days when no one had any idea what we were.

At our best we are Senior Children. The rest of the time we just play.

Two years my junior.

I used to live in Feltham for quite a while. Worked in Bushey Park. Played pool in the pub just that side of Twickenham bridge... had three tables, IIRC. Turned into a restaurant.

Sorry if I sound a little distracted at te moment, but I've got some freshly discovered Lexx music blasting into my ears.

Does the cafe do small talk? I hadn't noticed. Social chit-chat? No! We only talk about world-shattering crud.

Feltham's just down the road from me. Don't ever go there - full of Chavs. I work in Bushy Park (or at least in a building whose back door opens onto Bushy Park) 3 days a week. It's a small (wrong) planet!

I don't do job interviews - that's why I'm self-employed. For years people have been asking me to teach their kids and teachers have been asking me to teach at their schools. Like everything else in my life it just happened. There's a lot of us in this part of England, and a lot of demand we can't meet.

I chose my words acurately. I really did mean IN the park. I used to work for the Admiralty. Judging from the Google Earth images, the place has been demilitarised(?) It's that patch over to the west at the end of the road that goes that way. There is (was?) a side gate to the park there. Whole road was restricted access. The "compound" was walled/fenced off, and full of port-a-cabins at the time. I used to often have lunch in the NPL cafe (converted wind tunnel) and play table tennis there.

Coincidentally I was teaching a kid who lives 200 yds from there today so I walked there to see what was happening. The main building - Upper Lodge - is still there. The Mews has been converted into housing. It was demilitarised in 1994. (I remember wandering round there some years ago: all top security but nothing seemed to be happening.)
