Hi I'm new to all of this and this is in fact my first ever forum discussion.... Not bad for 49! :)

I am an NT and my daughter who is 15 has recently been diagnosed with high functioning Aspergers. My daughter has problems in many areas but in particular communication relating to friendships and people she doesn't know.

Anyway don't know how these forums work but just thought I would join up and say hi as my daughter is at this stage reluctant to join this.

Thank you

Hi, Welcome to the group. You will find lots of good reading here. There is a section for parents. You can also search for different topics and read past discussions which you may find helpful. Thanks for being an advocate for your daughter.

Hi , thanks for the welcome...

I've started this off trying to also get my daughter involved to help her realise she is not alone and there are lots of people that do understand amongst the people that don't! At the moment she is very rigid and feels too overwhelmed to place a post herself but you never know given time she may want to... I've been told that forums can be very helpful for lots of things and lots of different people... This was recommended by her CAMHS counsellor.

My daughter is really struggling, she also has anorexia just to make things even more challenging for her, so as you can imagine it's a really difficult time for her and I am her entire emotional world really... ! Of course I will always be there to encourage, support and love her, she is an amazing and incredible young lady, however I also feel it is important for her to have other contacts and friends to help her to understand herself more, help her through and may even possibly be mutually supportive to others given time....

I will definitely read more on the website. Hopefully at least for the time being it will be helpful to me along with helping me to help her and others to understand her more, until such a time she may ever feel able to place a post herself. Of course in the mean time she can always look at things with me and as you say I can be her advocate should she have any queries or wish to share something... Thanks again for replying... It's equally good to know that I am not alone... :))

Hi, and welcome to WP.
I was recently diagnosed with asperger and communication is also one of my biggest issues. It's okay if she isn't ready to join, but do encourage her to read a long. I've learnes so much here at WP and it's relieving to know I'm not the only one with my struggles.

Thank you all for being so welcoming.... I certainly will try to get her to read along... She's got a GCSE tomorrow so anxieties are running high... So maybe sometime over the weekend...
