Hi everyone. I am new here. I dont have a diagnosis and I am wondering why that would be important? I got a 38 on the online test. I am afraid of being labeled a certain way and I am not much into the medical system. They dont listen to what I say and they say that I said things that I didnt. I tried counseling a few times and it never went anywhere...either they didnt listen or they didnt understand. I am mostly alone and am looking for like minded folks to talk to. I am a senior and I have been looking around on the site here and cant seem to find others my age. Is there a place for seniors? I dont remember how I found this site but I am glad I did because I have been saying I am on the wrong planet for a while now. No one has ever understood me except maybe my son. He is the only one who has ever bothered to tell me about me. He says I dont read other peoples unspoken cues and others dont understand me. I'm also dealing with MCS...multiple chemical sensitivity which makes it double difficult to be amongst others. I have been chronically ill for 30 years or all my life, not sure, so I have not fitted well into the work world either. I am an artist at heart but have been unable to focus on my work mostly due to illness but lately I have been feeling better and I'm now wondering if it is my head that is keeping me from my art and it seems if I could express myself creatively I could find a place in the world. How do I get past my mind and a lifetime of rejection to finally be able to be myself???

Hi Azulagua. I am 53 and also find it difficult to trust medical people and have had more success with social workers. I have a friend who has MCS and struggle myself with some sensitivity.

In regards to doing art and developing agency in the world, I find this song helpful if I listen to it as sung to myself from myself.

"I found a reason to keep living and the reason dear is you."

:)

Similar age here, welcome to WP! Diagnosed in 2008 at age 45.

Enjoy your stay and feel free to browse the forums that interest you.

Age doesn't matter to most of us. I've never believed age should be any barrier.

Just do what you love and let your creativity flow. Music does indeed help! Sometimes I use it yo block out invasive sounds such as distant angle grinders.

Welcome to Wrong Planet. When I started posting, I was worried it was going to be mostly young people, but there is a wide variation in ages. I personally enjoy that. I just turned 65, and there are people here my age and older who post fairly regularly.

Welcome to Wrong Planet!

A proper diagnoses can help you figure out ways of reducing your stress level.

Some people already know what they are, while others are confused and need counseling to figure it it out,
Perhaps that is really the most confusing thing. Everyone is so different if you have autism. Even other people with autism!

I typically socialize best with people who share or can benefit from my narrow special interests.

Hi! I'm 60 years old, and my boyfriend is 49.

I've always felt that age differences were insignificant compared to all the other things that set me apart from the vast majority of people.
