Hello all

Newly diagnosed at the somewhat mature age of 60, which was something of a relief as so many things in my life now make sense.

Ive been trawling through old threads - theres some great reference material here and an interesting range of views.

I'm a Registered Nurse specialising in Learning Disability - so no big surprise to me as regards my diagnosis as I have been working with Autism in one form or another for 40 years. The clinical lead responsible for my assessment said that I was probably drawn to this client group in the first place due to my ASD. Makes sense.

I look forward to joining in with things here.

Hi and a very warm welcome to you ! Your story is very familiar. I’ve known of quite a few who have worked with those on the spectrum for many years, only to be later diagnosed ASD themselves. Good to have you with us.

I've never been an official support for autistic folks, but when I was diagnosed a few years ago, I discovered that I'd inadvertently surrounded myself with them. When I finally dared to disclose my diagnosis, I set off a little domino effect of others disclosing theirs - including two friends I'd known for decades diagnosed within months of me. So yes, "birds of a feather" and all that...

I had a private assessment by a Psychologist & Psychiatrist.

Unfortunately you may be waiting some time for an NHS one due to the current situation I would think.

Yeah, I’ve just had my next appointment cancelled by email.
I’ll just have to restart the process when this is over.
