Hello all,

Found my way here through a link on another site, I'm 29 and a single mum with two children of 10 and 8, the youngest has a dx of Autism. Since his dx at 3 I've been reading and investigating a bit; throught what I've learned I've strongly suspected that I have Asperger's Syndrome for about 3 years now but don't really know how to go about getting a dx (I know in theory you're supposed to tell your GP but I find it really hard to explain things to other people, like when I feel something inside I don't know how to get it out in a way that they'll understand) or what having a dx would mean for me in real terms.

I'm hoping to meet some like minded people on here and I'm really interested to see if people with a dx of Asperger's identify with with my experiences.

Shaz x.

Take some of the online ASD tests and show the results. It will save you money by cutting down to office visits. Just look up a Doctor of Psychology and set up an appointment.

I just retook the AQ test and scored 44 (I've done it before but couldn't remember my result) and I've got an 'Aspie score' of 146/200 on another test, can I just show my doctor that? Will he take an online test seriously?

Shaz.

it depends on who did the test in the first place. Research in any field is dependent on observation, and reliable methods. If it's a reputable lab or university, they might. What's almost certain (again this is a scientific constant, like funding requests), is that they'll send you out for further testing, possibly a formal diagnosis.

That being said...hi...back atcha...;)

I printed the actual questions with my responses marked, giving him the opportunity to evaluate the test itself before evaluating my responses.

hi - good to see you here,

I just landed a day before you. I'm afraid i don't have much in the way of experience of going to my g.p ( I'm also in the UK) about my aspergers - I think I am in a similar position as yourself - ie how do I go about this and what difference wil it make to my everyday life - is having a dx going to make it any easier etc ,.
but that aside - I'm also looking to find like minded people and it's good to meet another uk aspie female,

feel free to 'pm' me if you like,

5th x

thats probably a good idea. dont do what i did and just try and explain myself to the GP - waste of time, he told me i didn't have a medical problem and couldn't help

very depressing + frustrating - i hope your experience is better than mine. im thinking of going back armed with some ammunition but im scared he might just dismiss me again so quickly

*edit*

oops, i forgot to say hi  so... hi welcome to wp!
