A bit about myself.
I was diagnosed way back in 1997 when I was in Year 9 and I only kind of started to accept and even understand my AS in 2005. Reading about what AS was a huge relief and it was like I was reading from my own life's blueprint. Before I just felt stupid, lazy and slow, and that one day I would finally catch up - but I still never have. I really struggle in un-structured social situations like lunch breaks or parties where I just have no idea how to initiate coverstation with complete strangers in front of other strangers.
My way of explaining what it feels like to have AS: It's like I can appear and act perfectly normal on a boat, only when it is docked at the harbour. While this is very boring for me it is also a safe atmosphere that I am very well acustomed to. But when the boat leaves with everyone on-board I simply just can't get on the boat and must stay back at the harbour. I really want to go and experience all that excitement but it is too scary and un-familiar to take that risk. Therefore I must settle for the boring but familiar experience.
I hope that makes sense (don't lock me up!) but it's how I have always thought since primary school. My lack of understanding and awareness of AS, and a little lack of courage or initiative has meant that I have missed out on so much in life and that really builds up a lot of fustration and sadness. I get annoyed that I never had a fair go at life to show my peers my true-self and utilise my full potential, all due to fear.
Anyway my main passion is poltics, especially how it gets mixed up with justice and war. I love reading and studying about the 1960's in USA, an absolutely amazing decade. I enjoy reading about Robert Kennedy and the evidentiary conflicts of his assassiantion. I also love bike-riding, bushwalking, cricket, Formula 1, Keeping Up Appearances, Seinfeld, Yes Minister and the old classic Looney Tunes.
At the moment I'm trying to get a job which has been quite a struggle as I'm terrified of cold-canvasing. Anyway I have to go and this site is very interesting but way too big!!
