Hi everyone,

I can't say enough how happy I am to have found this community! I'm a 27-year-old male, currently an Anthropology/Archaeology grad student... and I was diagnosed (unofficially) about a year ago.

It's nice to have the opportunity to meet (sorta) other Aspie's... hope everyone is well, and I look forward to floating around here more often.

rmctagg is correct. It's an aye-aye... juvenile, to be precise.

I'd post a link for the info... but apparently I'm not allowed to yet. Whoops...

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

Hello TrubPotto - Love your aye-aye; probably my favorite primate. Humans are not even a close 2nd.

Yes, warm welcome. Still, I'm working on convincing WP inhabitants to initiate a hospitality welcome casserole, just for etiquette. I understand this is the neighborly custom, yes? I think we could make a virtual casserole to welcome new members......

Anthropology/Archaeology? I'm chem/biochem plus neuroscience (PhD).

Hello and welcome TrubPotto

Never heard of an aye-aye before now. Just looked it up on Wikipedia. Interesting animal. World's largest nocturnal primate. 8)

Thanks again!

Yes, aye-ayes are quite fascinating animals. I'm particularly fond of their long finger they use for tapping on trees and logs to find grubs. And, they're pretty cool to look at too. Good stuff...

A researcher in chem/biochem and neuroscience? That's an impressive resume, LabPet.

The casserole sounds like a great idea. I make a pretty mean tuna one, if I may say so myself.

What area of anthropology are you specializing in? I now think I would have loved to be an anthropologist. In college, I had switched my major from anthropology to environmental conservation, thinking it was the more "practical, employable" choice. However, it was not. :x

So let me live vicariously through your experiences in grad school. Lol. Are you a TA or RA?

Weren't aye ayes often systematically hunted because of a belief that they were evil creatures? I seem to recall that from some years ago.

Wonderful to meet all of you! Thanks so much!

Krista - I'm interested in late European archaeology - the Iron Age or the Age of the "Celts" (though we try to avoid that trap), although I also have interests in other aspects of archaeology and human evolution.

I'm a TA, been one for three years, but have never had an RAship yet, unfortunately. I've mostly taught lab for our Human Evolution class, and done grading/mentoring for other introductory archaeology courses.

I recall hearing something about aye-aye's being perceived as evil creatures... but I don't know too many specifics about that, unfortunately. I'll have to look that up (yay... new fixation!)

So, you'll be able to understand me regardless of what I say!
