New to forum! I'm a speech language therapy masters student living in New Zealand. I've also just recently fitted it all together (at the ripe old age of 23) and realised I might have Asperger's. Anyone else in this category? :/

Just a bit about where I'm coming from - everyone seems very cagey and resistant to the idea of calling myself Asperger's since I seem to be "functioning perfectly well" in everyday life. This is despite my keep telling them that communication at its broadest definition is still a huge struggle...is that a common experience?

Now, my course just had another lecture on ASD, autism and Asperger's, and suddenly I'm teetering on the balance between 1. hundreds of co-incidental "dysfunctions" in my life, or 2. describing them all with a single label, that also explains even more things that I had just thought were just me being weird... It's mind-boggling. I'm still reeling from it, and I don't know what to think - lots of messages from everywhere.

In pursuit of possible answers, I ambled all over the internet in search of a community where I could find out more :) I figure that, even if I end up not having a clinical diagnosis of Asperger's, getting onto forums and finding out more about ASD will still be extremely useful for my profession.

(: ...so, hi!

Because so many people who did not know me as a child, a very odd and abrasive child, get agitated when I say I have asperger's, I have found it best to confine talking about asperger's to here. People are quite willing to accommodate me if I talk about single issues, ie. "I have trouble recognizing faces so please introduce yourself to me every time we meet again, please." but they do not want to hear that I have a global problem. Okay.

Welcome aboard Wrong Planet, Liresse. I think that you're going to find that Wrong Planet is a great little community with a huge amount of resources on Asperger's. I know that "mind-boggling" effect that you wrote about. Take great care of yourself, Liresse; all the WP best to you in your studies; and keep those interesting posts coming.
