Hi. My nephew will be 3 next month and I am wondering if he has a mild form of AS. He has always been delayed in his fine and gross motor skills. He talked at 2, but he doesn't use his speech in a coversational manner. He is obessed with balls and very rarely finds enjoyment from a toy that does not include a ball. His first words out of bed EVERY SINGLE morning, for the last year are, "I want chocolate milk." He does not display affection, does not respond to tickling, over responds to pain, over responds to lighting. He seems to zone out in large crowds, parades, etc... He finger flicks when overly excited. He does not seem to understand personal space, stepping on your feet, walking through your game, etc.. He is smart, he knows his numbers, letters, letter sounds, etc... He does not show a bond with family members, but does seem to be clingy at times to his mom, wanting her to do things for him that he is capable of doing. When in a play group setting, he does not interact with the other children, seems more aloof. I have noticed some lack of eye contact as well. I have also noticed that when in a room of adults, if something happens that is funny and the adults all laugh....there is a delay and then he will laugh. He does not know what has happened or he has not seen what occured, but will laugh loudly (but it is a delayed laugh).
I realize that he is young, but after being an ABA Therapist for 4 years with a child w/ autism....I'm a little concerned. I have never worked with AS and am curious. Also, are there in video clips of young children with AS?
Thanks so much!
