I've read that a lot of people on the spectrum need less sleep than the average person and I'm wondering how true it is. For myself if I don't set an alarm to wake me up, it doesn't matter how early or late I go to bed, I'll usually wake up almost exactly 9 hours later. The minimum I can get by on is 6 hours and I can't do it for more than a couple of nights in a row.

Usually about 10hrs. (never happens, daughter wakes us up at 6:30am). Actually, its more like I wake up at a certain time. My brain doesn't really start functioning until about 10am. I could go to sleep at 7am and get up at 10 and feel just as good as if I went to bed at 11pm. I think it has to do with the melatonin/seratonin balance. I seem to be doing better on less sleep as I get older. Don't know if that's due to aging effects or out of necessity (I have to get up at 3am to get to work on time).
Now that I think about it, Tuesday I went to bed at 9pm, woke up at about midnight, laid in bed until 2:30 then said the heck with it and went on to work. I wasn't really tired at all on only 3hrs sleep, but I'm sure my insomnia was Aspergers related because a weather front came through. My daughter and I both have bad days when the weather changes.

I generally need somewhere from 5-7 hours, but on weekends I sleep for about nine hours. (On weekdays I get up at 4 AM, just so I can have three hours of relaxing time before school.)

My husband thinks I'm crazy for giving myself 1.5 hours to get ready in the morning. It's nice to see someone else has me beat on that one.

It seems to have jumped around a lot for me.

About 8 hours when I was a kid (from age 13 and younger). But then I started to need more sleep, sleeping from 10 to 12 hours (about 10 on average). I usually need 9 to function at my best, minimum, tho more recently I've been getting by on 8....

The absolute worst I can handle and still be semi-functional is 6 - but the less sleep I get, the worse the headaches are.....

As long as I go to bed at around 10pm, I usually need about 9 or 10 hours of sleep. Sometimes 11.

But I have a hard time getting any less than that.

I need lots- ten hours- to feel fully rested. I'm OK on six to ten, and I can manage on four to six. On less than four I'm a wreck.

When I'm depressed I tend to oversleep if that's possible. I sleep twelve or thirteen hours a night to avoid having to wake up.

I needed 10 hours when I was younger.
Now (in my late 30s) 5-7, usually 6

I wake up every 2 hours so it's hard to know how much sleep I get. I have to "be in bed" for 8 hours minimum but I'm not asleep for a lot of that time. Cumulatively I probably get 6, but it's not enough. I really do need 8 cumulative hours but it's hard for me to get it :(.

I usually need 9-10 hours of sleep in order to feel fully rested. Which I think is unhealthy. Perhaps I should try to get used to getting less sleep.

I try to get 8, although we all here have sleep problems (usually falling asleep or staying asleep) Right now I am stimmed up and cant fall asleep to save my life, but then i will be up two or three times during the night.
My oldest sleeps like a rock and would sleep all day if you let him, the youngest has a hard time going to sleep (like his Mummy) he gets over stimed too.
We all have a hard time getting up and are not morning people at all.

*looking for the melatonin...* now I know I put it somewhere..
