Hello WP community!
Though I have never been officially diagnosed with Asperger's, I have no doubt in my mind that this is the cause for my "otherness" and my relative isolation. My mother has suspected since I was quite young that I have this condition; however, she has refrained from letting me be diagnosed for various reasons.
Recently, I have begun to attend college, and (naturally) it has been a tough transition period for me. Despite having had a small group of oddball friends in highschool, my college experience has left me alone and feeling significantly more disconnected from the world than is usual for me. Because of this, I am here now in an attempt to belong somewhere. Having lurked for a few days, I was almost brought to tears a few times hearing just how alike some of the posters here are to me. I have never before been given the opportunity to connect to people like me, so I have registered and posted my introduction!

IMO, college isn't a friendly environment for those with AS
Ironically, it seems that the culture is focused on shallow social interaction as opposed to academics and the developement of constructive interests.
My classes are fun and easy but trying to live comfortably is a constant struggle. I would expect that college (of all places) would be a safe haven for those with AS. Maybe it isn't this way at every campus?

Welcome to WrongPlanet, mathtool My apologies college's social life isn't so comfortable for you, I hope you enjoy it here on WP- I find a lot of individuals are able to connect here and are more comfortable than in daily life.
