Adult forum Necroing problems.
This needs someone watching it more,
now that I have stepped down. There was
a continuing problem with a member necroing
LARGE numbers of threads, chasing the conversations
which were on-going away. Many of these threads never
belonged in the adult section to begin with. 'Twould be
helpful, if a moderator moved them (often posted by
members long gone) to a more appropriate forum
(something that I was doing).
When things blew up around here, I was considering
whether to bring this issue up for discussion, but got
distracted by more important issues. I ask that the
mods consider it now. It's a hard case, as certainly
necroing threads SHOULD be allowed, but doing it
en masse, as it is, is tantamount to spamming, IMHO.
It is a means of suppressing information. There is also
the question of the whether the same person is using
a sock-puppet, to both justify the necroing, AND to
support their own arguments. If there is any unreasonable
usage of such duplicate accounts, THIS would seem to be
it.

Pulling some 20 old threads at a time
is a means of suppressing speech.
Especially when adding nearly nothing
to each one. Sometimes, just making
one-word answers to questions from
members who aren't even present.
Plus, there seems good reason to suspect
that TheChosenOne is a sock puppet,
to support both arguments, and the necroing.
The two members are only seen on the same
threads, use the same words even. This is really
damaging that section. An agenda ADMITTED to
by Pandora, who claims that, what was being discussed
just didn't interest her. Destroying all these conversations
is NOT a reasonable answer.
No matter what, some of the threads simply don't
belong in that section.

So, I considered this issue on
my walk home. I couldn't come
up with a solution. I DO think that
it's a problem, but like posting a
great number of cat threads, isn't
a bannable offence. Therefore, it
is also not deserving of any warning.
Nor do I think that deleting the useless
posts is particularly reasonable. It's purely
a judgment call, as to which would be reasonable,
and which not - one that a moderator can't make
fairly.
But, my hope is that enough complaining will cause
the member in question to reduce the quantity of
such actions. And, in contrast to when I was a mod,
I feel that I have a bit more right to do so - without it
being perceived as a threat; on par with the other
members, when they see something that disturbs
them.
Because, in effect, this tactic is damaging the
on-going conversations, and throws a damper
on the adult forum, every time that it occurs.

I found some comments in the adult forum quite objectionable and inappropriate and unrelated to AS. I personally think they should be deleted but as they won't be, I did the next best thing and brought up some other subjects.
I thought the adult forum was supposed to be for genuine questions about adult matters eg. "my partner is aspie and always wants to have intercourse at 7.45 Thursday nights - I would like a bit more spontaneity in lovemaking - how can I speak to him about this issue?".
If Calandale is so concerned that I am burying topics, he is always free to go back a page or two and make a reply to bring them back. I think he is being rather melodramatic in his comments and also by continuing to talk about stuff that is really off, he is inviting being stirred back.
Well, that is my 2 cents worth and thanks for the vote of confidence. I really appreciate it as Calandale says nobody likes my postings.

No one has stated that the IP addresses are different.
Not that that would be proof, but the opposite would
be almost completely damning. Even more so than the
choice of words and the manner in which the posts dovetail.
So clearly, it is the site's administartions point of view that filling
a forum with old posts, in order to bury current conversations, is
an acceptable tactic? Cool.
That could be in just about ANY fora. The point of the
adult forum is to sequester material which is innappropriate.
Generally speaking, the question you asked probably is most
fitting there, but it seems that what you desire is the In Depth
Adult Discussion, which was created (at the expense of the
men's forum), for the very reason that the adult forum had
become a bit too much like its namesake in Penthouse magazine
(ok, not that far, but you see what I mean).
Nah, I'd rather just keep riding your ass about
how inappropriate I think your behavior is. As
Alex put it, the best way of dealing with minor
infractions such as these is to leave it to the
membership to police itself; that we collectively
know what is wrong, and will come down on those
who persist in violating the ettiquete of the fora.
I wouldn't go that far. I enjoy SOME of them.
It just seems that one liners SOLELY for the
purpose of necroing threads is a pile of bs.

I once checked The Chosen One's IP on a whim. It's not shared with anyone.

So then you tell a MOD, or, if you are not satisfied with their response you tell alex. What gives you the right to resurrect old topics to blot out new ones you disagree with? Nothing. To even do so and then attempt to justify it is ridiculous and utterly pathetic. You choose to go to the adult section, and if you don't like it then you can leave. Or better yet, create a topic that you feel fits 'perfectly' within that section of this site. Leave other peoples topics alone.
That's your opinion, and clearly not a strongly supported one. People post because they have legitimate issues; they aren't making up crap to try and annoy you. Nobody is making you read them, or even look at them. Get over yourself, seriously.
Then what? You want to turn posting into a game of 'let's see who can have the topics they want up the top?' I don't think so. Grow up and don't do this crap in the first place.

I personally think that the In-Depth Adult Discussion is meant for various discussions about things that more adult aspies will encounter through life, while the Adult Discussion should be intended for discussion about sex, etc, but while still keeping within the guidelines.
EDITED to remove vestigial parts of the post and to clarify my position on necromancy.

The idea there is NOT to be a porno forum -
indeed, anything of that variety should be
deleted, at the least. It's not meant to arouse,
or titillate. It's a place for people to discuss sexual
topics, without having to guard their speech too
much.
