Can you limit the amount of posts a new member can make?
When forums were more popular, some required that you introduce and required moderation approval before continuing but feel that over here this would create too much of a threshold for some.

Was in a discord group where most of the threads were unavailable until you accepted the rules, might hold off the spam bots for a while but also same problem, might scare off some proper users too...

And I think for that reason, might scare off some proper users, Alex made it as easy as possible to join without restriction - which of course makes things easier for spammers.
C'est la vie, I guess, or at least on a forum.

But WP has an excellent post/PM reporting mechanism so the longevity of spam posts is very limited.

And on that topic - while I really do appreciate the reports made here it's simply more efficient if a spam post is reported when seen, using the "Report" button available on every post. The reports appear on a dedicated moderator screen so there's no chance of them being missed, and each report links directly to the spam post.
There's no need to report every instance; it's easy enough for me to check the poster's history and pick off any others.

Temo is wishing WP a Spammy New Year in General Autism section in a big way.

I worry that the massive spam is scaring off new members & causing long term members to leave or take breaks.
