You mean nobody here has to sign any kind of pledge card?!

Cool.

Which mod is on which end?

Why were my posts in QM's thread edited without my permission? Yet I'm finding other posts edited with permission from the poster?

I hardly know one end from the other, so your own guess there might even be better than mine!

I would have to see the specific posts in question to be able to say whether or not I might have done something there, but I can tell you I did edit "Coward" out in a couple of places and simply delete one post where someone had made an unnecessary observation of his/her perception of some member's seemingly-apparent-to-him-or-her sexuality ... a definite no no.

I think we have an interesting and possibly mildly-challenging situation here on WP this morning where folks with beliefs cannot find audiences for those beliefs without challenging the beliefs of others ... and that, I am slowly learning, is the way of the troll ...

Such is life on the internet, eh?!

Sometimes people create sockpuppets when they are in an argument to agree with themselves to make it look like they have support and someone on their side. And to get off topic a little, sometimes people create sockpuppets to defend themselves when something goes wrong on a forum between them and other members, they pretend to be their mother or friend or someone who is sticking up for the person. Is that considered trolling?

It might not be "trolling" per se. But it is a violation of the TOS and can result in a ban.

Sorry guys, I know this is bad netiquette to discuss member banning on a public forum, but I'm not sure if this is actually a banning or a site error, furthermore I've attempted to contact one of the mods with no reply - tough as I was unable to get onto the site to send a PM or find a mod email address, who should members contact if they get banned and how? I'm just writing this here to clear things up before I go back to posting, just in case.

I believe it was Friday night I went to the new post search page (which I've got bookmarked) to find the following message;

Quote:
You have been banned from this forum.
Please contact the webmaster or board administrator for more information.

Not only was my account banned but my IP address too it seems as I was getting this error message even when I logged out/refreshed/etc. and kept getting the message when trying to access the forums from other pages rather than just via the new post search page. Later that night I did find that I could get back on the site, look at threads, get onto the page to post a reply...but on trying to actually post the reply I wrote I got the message I was banned again. It's only been today when I've checked that I've been able to get on. *fingers crossed I can post this reply*

Sorry to the mods for posting this here, not sure where else to post it, if this not just a technical problem and I was banned for whatever reason (no reason I can think of) then please PM me, I'd just like to know what's going on in case I've done something wrong and am not welcome here any more. Please feel free to delete this post/ask me to delete this post.

Thank you :)

^ I've sent you a PM to find out more about the issue.

Edit: I've just re-read your post above and if I understand you correctly it is your current username that was seemingly banned then unbanned sometime later? :? If you had been banned for some reason then you wouldn't have been unbanned again. Sounds like a technical problem. The only time I've seen this sort of thing is with dynamic IP addresses and someone accidentally gets one that has previously been banned when used by someone else, but this is extremely rare.

Your name isn't on the moderators banned list.

Some members have gotten the banning error so you're not the only one.

Some IP addresses have been banned, but because the trolls use proxy IP addresses, it means that sometimes, there's a possibility that an innocent person will be blocked until their IP changes. When I was a moderator, I decided, after a while, that I would not use IP bans for this reason.

I have yet to ever ban anyone, but I believe it is the general policy here for a mod's e-mail to be sent at such a time, and then the banned individual should be able to respond to that e-mail, if desired.

That's a good policy.
