I miss them

unlimited freedom of speech.
Free to say anything unless it offends the megalomaniacs who run it, you mean. If you upset them, then you might not be directly banned there, but you'll end up banned on the other AS sites they moderate where they'll use the Terms of Service to generally intimidate you. They'll spread lies and slander, and do their best to interfere with your personal life. They'll modify your posts, append an offensive moniker to your screen name, and fuel a general witch-hunt against you spurring other members to send you threatening PMs. Furthermore, they orchestrate disruption of AS support sites such as this one, even going as far as taking images individuals have posted in "secure" areas to mock them. Indeed, a certain British AS support site had to temporarily suspend new membership after it came under attack.
I was indeed aware that some members there
launched attacks on sites which pissed them off.
All part of free speech. As to banning people from
other sites, I have no knowledge of that, and don't
have accounts at any such sites.
If any threats are received, you should seriously
consider taking legal action.
Look, not everyone there is a nice person. Same with
here. The only thing which it provides is a haven for
free speech.
Quote:
The people who run the site in question are nasty, vindictive individuals, and several people here can testify to the levels of depravity to which they will stoop.
Right now, within the bounds of what is possible,
the membership as a whole run the site.

So calandale, stop trying to make out the place is something it's not, because one day you'll drag someone into there who isn't able to cope with that kind of stuff.
I'm not. I'm telling it like it is. I find it a
helpful place, for certain needs. Great
place to blow off steam, and fairly
good to have debates.
Quote:
In fact advertising the place somewhere like this is grossly irresponsible, as many members here are particularly vulnerable.
As noted, I'm not advertising it.
Just giving my assessment, as
you have done. Indeed, I've probably
turned as many people away from joining,
as have sent links to.

Do any of you think something positive can be done about this?

I know.
As long as we don't imply too much about the negative, that's what matters.

free speech.
Rubbish. You can't have any degree of freedom of speech where lynch mob justice prevails. What you do have there is the situation where the most socially-able and downright nasty can manipulate and intimidate with impunity under the guise of the will of the "community", or other such nonsense. It's actually the antithesis of what most people consider to be a free and democratic society.
If you want an illustration of that point, just look at how certain people there go on about labelling a certain member here a paedophile. That's clearly intimidation, and it's done by your site admin purely to even a score. If you want evidence of that, then consider that they freely sing the praises of a certain other well known AS site whose founders were 16 and 30 when they met prior to starting a family. Exactly the same situation they disparage the other individual for who's a member here.
Anyway, the mods here may decide to remove this, but I think it's a good warning for people to stay clear of your PM invites. All you're doing is fishing for victims; and there's a growing list. How the hell you can justify that in your own mind is beyond me, though perhaps having not observed the behaviour of certain individuals there since the beginning you're unaware of their previous excesses.

Lynch mob? What are you on? These are words
we're talking about. Have you ever faced real
danger? If so, I can't imagine how someone's
mere statements and comments could possibly
be put in that kind of category. Even kindergarteners
learn that words can't do real harm. Not alone.
There's a new member there, who is getting a LOT
of s**t. I did as well. It's not a place for those without
the fortitude to handle a little bit of nasty speech. It
is a place where people are free. That means that
they say some ugly things.

Intimidation? How? It's name calling at worst.
I don't agree with it, but it's no worse than me
calling a mod here a tyrant.

I'm not sure that I believe that. Callaway seems to really believe
that this is a case of pedophilia. Indeed, she disagrees with the
AOC being less than 18, in general.

I know nothing about this, so veiled hints can't
really qualify as evidence. Please direct me to
some quote where she states that such a connection
is good. Just because someone may violate an ethical
principal, in the past, is no real reason to hold a grudge
forever against them.

I sure hope not. I THINK that this site
allows a bit of freedom as well.

All opinions on the matter seem fair.

Not in the least. The recent occurrences here drove a lot
of members to seek other sites. We actually have too many
members to assimilate rapidly at I2. I'm just suggesting an
alternative, for those tough enough to handle it. It's
NOT a support site (though once one is established, they might
find support there).

See, you're engaging in manipulation. You're implying that those who don't join are not "tough", and that there's some kind of kudos attached to being a member. You're actively engaged in recruiting members from here, to be victims there.
calandale wrote:

I thought that was obvious. Labelling someone a paedophile isn't exactly conducive to their good health. Inciting the more unstable members to send offensive and threatening PMs can be a little disturbing, you know, if you're the recipient. Banning people from other AS sites for upsetting your admin doesn't exactly do much for a persons mental wellbeing if they suffer from AS and have relatively few places they can post. Knowing your admin encourage members to take images from private areas of support sites to be used to mock them doesn't exactly encourage open and free debate.
As for it being "just words", people have gone out and topped themselves because others used "just words" against them.

Not at all. There are many members here
who realize that they ARE effected by words.
Indeed, consider my statement a warning that
they should stay away. Merely being a member
of a site means nothing. Earning some respect
there, or at any site, IS of value to some of us.

Not in the least. Even after your answer.

I've seen worse name calling here.
What effects someone is sometimes
hard to assess. I would take little thought
to being labeled a pedophile, even though
I find myself attracted to much younger women.
On the other hand, I find that being called a
human rather disturbs and insults me. You
can't judge what a person is bothered by.

AFAIK, the threats ran too, and not away, from
the name callers. Maybe I'm not aware of all
the facts though. At best, they were mutual.

I don't know about this. Certainly, if it
is as you paint it, it sounds rather petty.
But, opinions formed on other sites CAN
determine one's actions. For example, while
I was moderating here, I would use I2 to
assess the character of joint members. Helped
me to tell whom I had to watch - and sometimes
when.

Posting anything on the net is
a risk. I'd rather blame the site
which failed to protect your image
than the one which exploited that
failure.

Lucky bastards. I wish to hell I had
that kind of courage.

That's like encouraging someone to burgle your neighbour's home then blaming your neighbour for having inadequate security. You're using the logic and morals of a ten year old, calandale. Many people with AS come to these sites to make friends. They post pictures, in good faith, in order to facilitate that. And you think abusing that is acceptable? Shouldn't come as a surprise though, as many of your senior members over there seem to have a problem with the concept of ethics.

Just the kind of puerile response I was expecting.

BS. No one there has that kind of authority.
Indeed, we've been trying to make 'official' statements
AGAINST such actions recently.

Nah. There are some 'bad apples' there. Everywhere.
Free speech means they don't get banned for it. That
simple.

Hey, I just speak the truth. I'm too cowardly to
obtain the peace that I wish.

HaHa. At least I don't need the security of admin access before speaking my mind, nor a gaggle of attendant sycophants to follow my every post with "quoted for truth".
More than can be said for my detractors, eh?
