And I do beg to differ, it is a problem.
Try it in another slow moving section,

One of the big problems is that, unlike
say SMP, this bbs software clears out
the unread listing. Thus, posts which make
it off the first page REALLY appear dealt
with. Out of sight, out of mind.

Great, our dark mage Pandora has raised about an entire pages worth of topics from 2005. This crap needs to stop. The motives behind this are quite clear now. Nostalgia? Yeah right. People make new topics to seek help addressing current concerns, not to be swamped away by ancient posts. The fact that people support this is ridiculous.

If we're all so happy living in the past and communicating with long-gone members then why not ban making new topics entirely?

Pandora, unless there is a genuine interest in the topics you 'revived', don't revive them merely to bury other topics. That is not on.

calandale, stop bleating about your rights and think about your responsibilities for once. If you want unlimited free speech, then go to I2. And stay there.

Here, we are not having freedom of speech at the expense of others. But this whole debacle is about just that. The lot of you have to remember this saying: "Better to be thought of an idiot than to speak and remove all doubt".

Indeed. As a member here, I have a responsability
to note when other members are acting unreasonably.

Something Alex pointed out to the moderators, when he
explained that we were not to utilize a heavy hand, but
rather to trust to the members to self police.

Thank you for at least using a couple of correct words.
I DO know that you sometimes seem to forget Alex's
instructions, so I'll forgive you your mistaken and
threatening warning.

Why not lock threads older than a certain date?
Many forums have an option to lock threads older than 12 months, which I think is great, and allows to avoid all this necroposting.

Because, in general, there is nothing wrong
with necroing. I'm hoping that she stopped.

Mass necroing is to necroing, like an atomika
spam attack is to posting.

Easily solved by not having new posts bumped to the top of the forum.

Pandora could just as easily link to posts she feels are important from a
common thread and call it something like Pandora's sage advice.

But, I get the feeling this is just a another wang measuring contest for reasons
I'm not privy to. So go at it.
