That's why I started the overmoderation thread. I had renamed a thread, and began to wonder if that was going overboard. BUT, I saw that in general this might be a good place to let us know if things aren't working. The last thing that we want is to spoil the atmosphere here. Frankly, I believe in almost no moderation at all, but there are certain rules which help maintain a welcoming and family friendly atmosphere.

I'm glad that some are paying attention to this, because it's our only real way of judging our mistakes. I think that our primary purpose is to stomp out pointless spam fires - which probably no-one wants.

It's surprising how easily the atmosphere of a site can change, I've seen it happen before on other forums.
Also, if members feel that the Moderation becomes oppressive who do we tell? What is the procedure for if this happens?

Curiously enough Starbuline (who is a moderator now, much to my shock) had a little bit of modding she felt like doing but wasn't sure on exactly what. Instead of asking an experienced mod, she asked me what to do about it. I suggested a course of action but before we could put it into effect another moderator did the exact same thing. This could be biased however by the fact that I was the most convenient person to ask at the time.

Actually she, flagg and I had come to an agreement about the issue. I felt that I ought to take the fall, by making the change, since I probably want this position the least.

Starr - obviously you can PM Alex if anything is seeming ugly. I did set up a thread to discuss overmoderation however, because I'm terrified of the responsability. I think we all would appreciate as much feedback as possible, so that we can make decisions better.

This all really came as a shock to us, and is very difficult to handle.

Sorry calandale, I've been looking for the thread but I can't find it, could you post a link please? :)

S'OK-found it!

I PM'd you about it, but it should be stickied at the top of this forum. If it's not appearing, we used some of our powers in odd ways.

To me, the decision to re-name the thread was quite simple. It was fair on the guy, although it would leave the first sentence of his post to be at odds eh?

Yeah. I think he then deleted the thread as a whole. I'm not sure what the intention was, and I wouldn't have acted without the support of others (at least not so quickly), but it was the only part of the thread which was offensive. None of it seemed to serve any purpose at all really, but I hate the idea of squelching free speech. I think he would have been free to change it back though.

Looked these over, and they all appear to be long-time members who have few posts. Probably would make the best choice for mods, except for the fact that they're less likely to be active than spammers like me. There may have also been an attempt to cover all topics on the board. I suspect that few of us look at the entire forum (I know that I don't), and certain topics may be harder to find people to fill.

That is true, I'm not on every forum. I only really occupy this forum, The Haven, Roleplaying and Random, Know each other, Kid's Crater (yes, and I'm 16), Adolescent, Member's, News and Art. I haven't EVER posted in Politics, Computers, Sport, Male or anything like that.

Ok, maybe not a popularity contest.

Probably more of a spite issue.

It's because Alex has beef me.

I blocked him on MSN after he lied to my face several times over to stop me participating occasionally at intensity.

Well, you're a mod again. Didja clear it up yet?
