Am I the only one who finds it ironic that on a site where most of the members very strongly oppose any sort of "treatment" for Asperger's most of the ad's are: "Asperger's treatment", "Fix bad ADHD behavior now" "behavior problems?" etc. I don't know if WP has any control of those ads, or I'm assuming they just pop up because the site has Asperger's in the title. I just thought it was pretty funny/ironic.

Personally, I never notice those ads. Sometimes the ads with graphics will get my attention, but none of those are ever for anything related to Asperger's.

I run MS Internet Explorer as my browser with no ad block whatsoever so I can see exactly what our members see. I must admit, I never click on an ad, ever, ever, ever, because I simply don't 'see' them as something to click on. However I DO read them to see what is being offered and I have to say. . . they can get pretty suggestive and provoking.

I don't care much for it, either. However, no one has asked me, nor answered my concerns about it. I notice the blogs are full of commercial spam yet it is on some area in the software where I can't edit it. So I bravely soldier on, keeping the spam out of our forum where I can eliminate it. I really appreciate the membership that keeps PMing the mods where they find spam on the forum. That helps so much!

The ads are triggered by keywords on the page. I think they're Google ads, so people pay Google to place their ads on "targeted" sites; sites with keywords that indicate that the readers of that site might be interested in what is being advertised, the site can't control it. Crazymeds.us ended up creating an article to explain the deal with "natural lithium" because ads for it kept popping up on the site since of course it included keywords that would make the sellers want to target people reading that site.

So posts here including words like "autism" and "Asperger's" trigger any ads that want people reading about AS ad autism to see them. Posts in the dating forum trigger ads for dating sites.. etc.

Just to clarify what I wrote: I never notice the text only ads. (Well, accept right now, because of this thread pointing them out.) I notice the ones with graphics sometimes.
