I believe that one or two of the mods need the ability to block a members posts or something similar. There needs to be someone here at almost all times who can deal with this. The site is an easy target as they realise that the mods here have limited capabilities..I am, of course, assuming that they do. Or maybe there needs to be a more difficult registration process to be completed which might put off spammers who wont want to bother with in depth responses etc. Alternatively, there could be a requirement for posters to have 10 decent posts before they can post in all of the forum sections...that also might make it harder for them to come on simply to spam... I think the effort to put something in place like this would be more than worth it in the end if it prevents this problem.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Maybe the mods could have access to a feature that would put an account on probation or something, that Alex could look at later. Also I think it would help if there was a way for the mods to delete all of a user's posts simeltaneously. Alex, if you need help finding code for these things I could look, I used to know something about this.

SOme of the new mods have absolutely no idea what they can and can't do at all. I see no differences in the interface, as it stands.

I see a few differences with the interface. For instance, I can see how one would go about locking a thread or deleting an individual post that is nothing more than the word "SPAM" typed over and over again. I think I saw how to delete a thread as well.

I still haven't figured out how one would delete an avatar. :?

Are these all pretty obvious? Maybe I'm just a faux mod.

When you are reading the thread, look in the lower left hand corner under the "REPLY" and "NEW TOPIC" buttons. There are 4 icons - the "X" is delete, the lock is a picture of a lock, the arrow moves a topic, and I am not sure what the split does.

Also, in individual posts, you have the Edit option on all of them - not just yours - and an "X" that I think deletes the individual post. There is also an "IP" button - I think it might do an IP trace on the post, but I am not sure. Haven't had a situation arise where I'd need to use any of this, thank goodness.

What I don't know - and I intend to ask Alex about this - is what to do about individual user accounts. I don't necessarily want to be able to ban people, but it would be nice to be able to delete pornographic avatars and possibly put users on prohbation until he comes back around - at least that would have been a useful ability to have last Friday (or Saturday depending on where you are).

Maybe you can only be a member if you can score over 140 on the RDOS test....that might be interesting, but would leave out the ADD,and I would really miss Machine1....hum,how about they have to come up with three exceptable....

"you might be an aspie if's....."If they say....."Play with dolls,"....they dont get in the play house.

I like this idea.

You don't seem to be a mod anymore.

I fixed it myself.

Cool - I can be one or not at will. Since all it seems to mean is no custom tag,
I'm just going to stay not one. I can assume my mantle if I need to rebuke someone.

This is like Pierre's Anthony's incarnates. Anyhow, I'm not doing anything until I get some
kind of guidance. I still think it's a mistake. My interface looks the same.

I pretty much know what to do as I moderated two forums before, and ran one myself before it sank into oblivion for some unknown reason... I lacked the energy to find out what happened as I had paid the domain name for 2 years and the forum software and I owned and should still own my own unlimited webspace.. I didn't keep all the details though so... *sigh*

I shall leave my label there for now...might change it later on in time.

...this is the same as saying NTs aren't welcome here. There are several (I think...at least a couple I know of) NTs that contribute to this site in a positive way. Would they have to leave? More than that, wouldn't this encourage the whole NT-aggressor viewpoint?

Lastly, if someone really wants an account, they can get one. Tests can be faked. This wouldn't stop a determined spammer.

I still think the idea of new members having to make a certain number of posts before they can post in the main areas... maybe limited to a few sections until they have 10 posts..but they might be difficult to set up, I am not clued up on bbs.

What you really should do is have a way to render a certain poster's posts invisible until they can be reviewed if they are posting inappropriate stuff.

I think an extra area for Moderators to discuss things amongst themselves would be a good idea. Some have not moderated before and don't know all the "rules of moderating" and such. I think such a place for moderators to help each other out would useful.

Hidden or not, I don't know.

A current list of moderators for us members would be good, too.

I thought all forums had a hidden mod forum. I remember being a mod on a forum and it had one.

I don't know how difficult it is, but it would work well. I've seen it done a couple places already, so I don't think it would be that hard to do, but that's nothing more than speculation on my part.
